For the Love of Shoes

As everyone knows, you cannot be a Skinny Bitch without some fancy footwear. Manolos, Choos and Louboutins will all be part and parcel of the lifestyle once you can say “I’ve made it”.

Unfortunately as we are only Skinny Bitches in the making we’ve had to downgrade our shoe dreams. While we will not compromise on style, we do love shoe brands that agree with our current bank balances.

Right now, the brand that combines both fabulosity and fits into our budgets are Bronx Ladies. A brand which has completely revamped its image from what I remember from my younger days. The new styles could easily be mistaken for the high end stuff yet the prices remind you it’s a real person’s brand.

I recently opened up my inbox to find their latest summer range has landed and it’s definitely something to look forward to.

Below are my personal favourites from the range. If you’re like me and heart the below, then you can head on over to their website or call Jordan Footwear on 021 590 7000 for your nearest stockist.

I’ve got my eye on a pair of the Hero heels. I can already see myself rocking them with kaftan dress. I’m thinking something gold or neutral. I just love this shrimp colour and think the shoes are ultra sexy.

These shoes are so freakin’ hawt. But have to be honest not something I think a short girl like myself could pull off. I may have to convince the roomie to rock them. Can you imagine these with a white shirt and some leggings. I’m thinking dramatic makeup and messy hair and tada! Sexiness!

Ah, the good ol’ wedge. For someone who wears heels every day, wedges are the perfect antidote for a day off when I still need some height. And they look great with summer dresses. I have the perfect maxi dress for these shoes.

For those who prefer some flats, there are days when even I do, have a look at this beauty.

These snakeskin heels are totally going to be my go-to work shoes. You could pull off a LBD or even just a pair of skinnies with these heels and they'll still look super chip. Yes please!

Any favourites?

Style Scoop Post

My latest Style Scoop article is up.

It's all about Brian Atwood. If you love Choos, Louboutins and Manolos you'll love his shoes. They even had a starring role in Sex & The City 2.

Let's All Take A Few Minutes...

...and appreciate the beauty of these items I found over on Net-A-Porter.

Whenever I'm feeling sad I try and buy me some happiness. Unfortunately my credit card has been a little abused and I'm anxiously waiting for payday (when it comes around you'll find me camping outside the ATM) so for the moment I'll have to do with just looking.

Things That Make Me Smile

I had such a crappy day yesterday and then to top it off, my car broke down.

I don't really wanna talk about it all but still felt the need to blog. So instead of words, here are some pictures from We Heart It that make me smile.

Enjoy!

A Women's Right To Shoes

Isn’t it amazing that no matter how bad you are feeling, whether it be a bad hair day or a fat day, a little shopping does wonders for your self-esteem. Skinny Bitches hit the shops yesterday for some much-needed retail therapy. As our bank accounts do not reflect those as trust fund babies we were limited in what we could buy. Saying that, we still managed to get some fabulous stuff. Now the problem is, I’m really eager to go shopping again but I have to be a grownup about it.

Being a grownup means paying things like rent, utilities and credit card first. Then it’s the matter of putting your gym, groceries and petrol money aside. Then finally you’re left with what is a teeny tiny amount on which you’re meant to be a social butterfly and still look awesome in a new dress. Normally I’d forgo the new dress for going out more. I have a fabulous roomie who has a closet full of clothes I can borrow. And due to the fact I’m vertically challenged and she’s not, all her sexy tops can be worn as dresses. That means I have tripled the number of dresses at my disposal.

This month however I need to get some new shoes. I absolutely love the fact that a pair of shoes can make an outfit. I used to have really nice shoes. Now I sorta have nice shoes. You see I’m a firm believer in dressing up no matter the occasion (unless it’s the gym then I look fug). So everyday to work I wear something that takes more effort than pulling a pair of jeans and a the first t-shirt without stains on. And I always make an effort with my shoes. As a result my once pretty red stilettos, purple, pewter, navy blue, black, sparkly brown, baby pink, green, beige open toe, white, red peep-toe, red peep-toe with detail, black wedges, black pointy, black pointy with diamante, white with the ankle strap, black ankle boots, black knee-length boots, brown knee-length boots and black pointy with ankle ribbon ties are all damaged.

And I need new ones. Dilemma is, which ones do I get. I could get some new versions of the damaged kinds above but I feel I want to experiment. I’m loving the new-look gladiators. They aren’t as scary as the ones that came out a few years ago. And am also loving shoes with bits of details whether it be flowers or bows. Studs are also the hot thing right now. But I’m not sure I’m that kind of girl. More importantly I could never pull that off. I ventured to Net-A-Porter and found these beauties. Obviously there is no way I afford them but am hoping to find some local equivalents. What do you think?

Monday's Mantra*

This week
I'm getting paid. Hurrah!
I believe payday is the best and worst day of the month.
I'm addicted to walking past the perfume shop so I can keep my Henry Cavill obsession going.
I wish Green Eyes would stop it with the denial, Henry Cavill is mine! (I wish Blue Eyes wasn't so delusional - Green Eyes).
I'm jealous of the woman who obviously has too much money because she can afford to ride a motorbike in Louboutins.
Soundtrack/Mantra for the week Total Eclipse of the Heart

Beautiful Things

When you see beautiful things, there is nothing else to do but share.

I was browsing the new items pages on Net-a-Porter and found these beauties. Unfortunately after browsing I was once again wishing to be a trust fund baby. I love my family but if I found out they weren’t really blood relatives and I actually belonged to a Greek shipping heir, I would be okay. Whilst I contemplating trying to prove my inheritance, ala Anastasia, have a look at these amazing pieces. I want!

This draped jersey knit from Lounge Lovers would look amazing with a pair of wet look treggings or some skinny jeans. I wouldn't over accessorize cos the draped neck is already a key point to the outfit. I would however add a brooch or flower, just to brighten it up. Also a pair of red heels would be killer.

Being short I can never really wear thigh high boots. On me they'd basically be pants. But I can still dream. These Louboutin boots are so fabulous. I would pair them with a mini LBD and a denim jacket. This outfit is all about the boots. And apparently I'm not the only one to think so, the boots are sold out already.

How freakin' sexy is this Hervé Léger dress. With the right curves (and some magic knickers), it is sex on legs. I'm also thinking messy hair and purple eyeshadow for some reason.

Summer Loving

The weather in Cape Town has been funny lately. On Saturday we had that fabulous sunny day where we could all wear dresses, drink wine in the sun and wear sunnies. On Sunday I also wore a dress, with a cardi but still the weather was pleasant. Since Monday however, it has been nipples cold and we’re all forced to wear dozens of layers. As I cannot do anything but dream of summer, I thought I’d better start preparing for it. This is when all the overseas fashion websites are tres helpful as they are coming out of summer and we’re going into it. Lots of summer outfit inspiration. I’ve been viewing Polyvore like it’s my job.

Here’s what I’ve come up with:

After Sunset Cocktails

Cape Town Cocktails

I am in love with this purple Marchesa dress I found on Net-A-Porter. I would rock it with champagne pink peep-toes, black corsage on my hand, dark, smokey eye make-up and a cosmopolitan.

City Strolling

City Strolling

Considering I now live in the hipster hood of Kloof Street, I have to keep up with the cool kids. This cool yet stylish ensemble is how I'm going to do it. The dress and shoes are all me, and the fedora is just a touch of hip. The Chanel sunnies are of course out of reach but they would bring a touch of class to the look.

Working 9-5

Working 9 to 5

I work in an office that's very casual. People can wear outfits two days in a row and walk around sans shoes. I am not one of those people. Because I always dress for the job I want rather than the one I have, I make an effort. This look is so effortlessly chic. The blue Louboutins are of course a rather large pipe dream but they are just fabulous.

Now all I need is the moolah to go shopping.

Oh for the love of...Shoes!

As blue eyes has already mentioned, shoes play a big, big role on our wishlist. They inspire confidence and power beyond the height that they provide, enhance our shape and look pretty. They're also really easy to get wrong - there are SO many fugly shoes out there. So, as potential Queens of the World would have to wear the best, what are the best shoes in the world? The quest commences for the best that money can buy (which we need to point out might be very expensive but aren't necessarily the most expensive).

If we're going for the absolute best, there are only three brands to consider - all of them designed and made by artists and craftsmen.
Manolo Blahnik
Much loved by Carrie in Sex and the City, the Manolo brand originated in London and was launched in 1971. Mentors to Blahnik and the influential people that we have to thank for encouraging his talent are the late, greats Diana Vreeland (American Vogue's legendaray editor) and Ossie Clark (the designer of the 70's).

Jimmy Choo

The Jimmy Choo brand of luxury shoes and other accessories was launched in 1996 by Tamara Mellon, company director (previously British Vogue's accessories editor) and Jimmy Choo himself, an East London shoe-maker. Celebrities love them for their bling-bling appeal and up-to-the-minute trends on the red carpet.

Christian Louboutin My personal favourite, these beauties are characterised with deep red soles - flashing a glimpse of scarlet as one walks. Christian Louboutin, the man, is a French designer who has recently branched out into handbags.

Welcome

Welcome to Skinny Bitches – In the Making.

It is our aim to be fabulous, effortlessly stylish, high-flying career women with Christian Louboutins, handsome boys with stubble who look amazing in jeans and white t-shirts and the kind of apartments that are featured on Top Billing. But without that annoying presenter and weird art.

In essence we want to be those girls in the opening sequence of The Devil Wears Prada. The ones we hate for no reason other than the way they carry themselves, the fact they can pull off skinny jeans without someone yelling beached whale and their perfect hair.

As you have most probably gathered, we are totally unlike those women.

Now.

Give us some time and we will be the kind of girl you hate for wearing head-to-toe white without any food stains. The kind of girl who can command a room. The girl with the red-soled shoes and no waist.

This is our journey from penniless graduates to penniless juniors in the working world. From curvy women to skinny bitches. From single, we-don’t-need-men ladies to loved-up couples. From fleeing the nest to ocean view penthouses. And from merely dreaming of to wearing the red-soled shoes.

Enjoy the ride,

Ex-oh, Ex-oh
