Monday's Mantra

This week
is all about surviving the heat.
I believe the soccer World Cup will be GREAT.
I'm addicted to frozen cocktails. Mmmm, daiquiris.
I wish I had an internal cooling system that wasn't sweat.
I'm jealous I'm not poolside.

Skinny Bitches Progress Report

We thought it was time for an update on the various aspects of our lives, here's the low down.

Fabulous Apartment: CHECK

We absolutely love living in town, especially as we're just off Kloof and we all know Kloof is where it's at. We have many friends telling us that Sea Point is the new hub or that a stylish new modern apartment is the way to go, we completely disagree. Where else can you walk to your favourite restraurants and shops and have the amount of room space we have. Plus in this extreme heat, we're very lucky that our apartment is really cool. Plus the daily entertainment we get from our neighbours makes it worth it, who'd needs Reality TV.

Boys: TBC

We're super amped up fro the World Cup. Not only because the atmosphere and party seen will be amazing, but becuase the foreign boys will soon be gracing our shores. Us Skinny Bitches have personally taken it upon ourselves to be the Cape Town Welcoming Commitee. SP yo may catch glimpses of us at the airport, Dubliner, Waterfront and generally walking up and down Long & Kloof street. We've got our World Map and language guides ready in hand. VIVA CAPE TOWN 2010

Zero-Waists: CHECK

Green Eyes is still hitting the gym and I'm pleasantly watching her leave the apartment to go to the gym. Except for a dodgy tan and some 'maintainance' issues, we're happy with the progress we're making on our size zero-waists (and all that it entails)

High Heels: CHECK

Althought the funds are low, did you know it was actually possible for your salary to decrease? It's called medical aid and inflation. However, clothign and fashion are still important to us and so we sacrifice eating nice food for having new clothes and shoes. I recently hit one of those 'everything for R90' sles at the Riverclub and scored big time. Heads-up, if you don't get there earlety (7am) then don't even bother. It was definately worth it and now I am pleasantly satisfied with my wardrobe additions.

Plans: CHECK

I've added Plans to the checklist. It's good to have plans so you have some things to look forward to. So upcoming plans for us are a Kelly Clarkson concert, Friends birthdays, Girls weekend away in April, trip overseas, World Cup 2010 (yes, it's a plan) and many more to follow.
P.S. we've just discovered Deco-Dane (yes a little late), but absoultely love the place, definately more trips there.

Careers: can we just leave this blank for now and pretend it never came up :)

Mid-Week Highlights

I finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It started off very slowly and then all of a sudden I was staying up late to finish it. It was totally gripping but also had a dark plot twist that I never saw coming. Wonder how Stieg Larsson thought of that. If you haven’t read it, I don’t want to ruin it. But I would recommend it, if you’re not too sensitive. It’s not graphic but it’s a bit hectic.

I’ve started planning my winter wardrobe. I’m thinking ladylike chic with an edge. I’m planning greys, blues and purples and lots of accessories like gloves, scarves, hats, and ear muffs. Also plan on getting some awesome head pieces from Mungo and Jemima.

After months of ignoring my account, I finally (re)joined Twitter. It was a bit daunting at first ‘cause I didn’t get what RT meant or how to follow people. So after a tutorial by my lovely co-worker I am now tweeting in heels. Seriously that’s my name! You can go here to follow me. Must still get a new profile and shizz but right now am just enjoying tweeting.

I’m getting super excited for the World Cup. It’s 99 days away. I’ll be going to two games so far both with lots of talent on the pitch. But the most important thing is that Blue Eyes and I will be planning our own personal welcoming committee. Mostly for all the hot foreign boys ;)

Tonight we’re going to watch Valentine’s Day. I’ve heard it’s a shameful American rip-off of Love Actually. I’ve also heard it’s really funny. All I’m saying is, McSteamy, Bradley Cooper and Jakob from Twilight in the same movie…yes please!

Hope your week is awesome!

Monday's Mantra

This week I need to sort out my room, it's messy.
I believe Cape Town needs more easy-to-access swimming pools.
I'm addicted to friends cooking you supper.
I wish I got more sleep. The hear kept me awake. Luckily had The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to get me through.

Style Icon

If I was tall, skinny and had blonde hair, Kate Lanphear (style director for Elle US) is who I'd want to be.

Isn't she fabulous?

Things That I ♥

Good Times

Last week our office went out for a team-building event at LaserQuest. It was totally awesome to spend some fun time with the coworkers I like and I got to wear my jumpsuit and legwarmers which is always a good thing. I tried to use the name “Skinny Bitch” but it was just too long so instead I used Princess. Princess ended up coming fourth which I was really happy about it. Also the game was much more strenuous than I remember from my childhood days so I think I also lost a bit of weight. It would have been a plus if not for the pizzas and drinks we had after the game. The best part was hanging around in the bar afterwards and using the jukebox. Not sure what the allure of them are but I spent way too much money playing 80s songs and dancing by myself. Everyone else was playing pool but I’m crap at it. So I danced to Just Can’t Get Enough and You Shook Me All Night Long. Good times.

Bite-size treats

Chocolate covered romany creams. Romany creams are a chocolate biscuit with a chocolate bit in the middle. Now imagine them bite-size and covered in chocolate. I don’t think I need to go on.

Movies like Pretty Woman

Skinny Bitches watched this last night and realized apart from the whore part, we are so like the Julia Roberts character. We’re the type of girl who has random facts about body parts and the kind who sings Prince off-key in the bath and we’re totally the girl who says “Oh honey I got a runner in my pantyhose. I’m not wearing any pantyhose.”

Burberry Prorsum Autumn Show

The coats. The body con dresses. The thigh-high boots. The military theme. It’s tres love in the dark after lights out.

Monday's Mantra

This week it's back to gym.
I believe strawberry trifle is evidence that angels exist.
I'm addicted to Dallas Divas & Daughters. Trashy TV at its best.
I wish the wind would stop. My hair looks terrible.
I'm jealous of no one this week, it's time for a positive attitude.
Soundtrack/Mantra for the week Nothing left for me to do but dance.

Thursday Night Tales

As much as us Skinny Bitches loves our fab living pad, there is but one downfall and it mysteriously has something to do with Thursday nights. For the last 4-5 weeks every Thursday night something weird has happened. Im not talking ghosts or finding hidden cash, Im talking people out on the street kind of weird.

Firstly, we experienced rather rude neighbours fighting with drivers as to who's fault it was to a blocked one way street. Our neighbours seem to think that highly abusive language and shouting will solve the problem, that and their 'relationship' with the local police. Did I mention that they think the yellow line outside their house is 'their' yellow line. And when I say abusive language I mean every single fowl mouthed word in and out of the english dictionary and in front of their young children...isn't that just plain common - please go back to where you came from. They also seem to think that the culprit (person blocking the street as if its not them) lives in our building of 8 flats, and so they will proceed to constantly ring our buzzer to see if it is us, regardless of the time of day/morning.

On another occasion we had two sets of gay couples figthing in the street because one of their cars had hit the other. Again with the abusive verbal onslaught at 2 or 3 am in morning...fighting over who was at fault, apparently the one couple where from the Eastern Cape, thus meaning it was all their fault. Drunk gays at 3 am in the morning are meanies.

The week before last I had, what I think was some sort of criminal, run past my window banging gates and bins. Freaking me out copletely, having both Green Eyes and myself in our lounge watching the cops and ADT drive by looking for the culprit.

And last Thursday or was it Friday I swear I heard gun shots or a car back-firing 6 times.

It's time like these when Im the most tired and all I ask for is sleep. If you're gona park illegally, hit someone's car, be a criminal on the run or shooting randomly, please do it quietly. My job does not entail me falling asleep during client meetings.

I will write again if anything happens this Thursday....
