Beauty Blog Love

I know I’m not the only one out there like this. You love beauty products but you’re anxious to try something new out without some solid backing. Or perhaps the costs of some these miracle creams make your eyes go wide and you’re hesitant to drop those gs. If you had the means and the ability to throw caution to the wind, you’d be a beauty product whore. But really you’re just a tease.

If you’re like that at all or if you just enjoy doing a little bit of beauty reading, I’ve found a solution. Below are three blogs which all specialise in beauty reviews, launches and trends. Basically these girls are the full-on sluts and allow use to indulge our fetishes from the sidelines.

Style Scoop – Okay I’m a little biased because I write for them but when it comes to beauty reviews Dimi is the business. Honest, easy-to-read reviews like hearing them from a bestie.

Lipgloss Is My Life – the funniest beauty blog I’ve come across. There are also some great fashion posts.

Lipgloss Kisses – a newish find but love the reviews and has opened my eyes to a world of new products.

Enjoy!

Poetry's Enchanted Garden

Last week I was invited to a very special event at the Poetry store at the V&A Waterfront. For those who don’t live here, Poetry stores are where the woman I want to be when I grow up shop. So essentially when I have all the means to be sophisticated, wealthy and fabulous, not to mention skinny, this is where you’ll find me.

Inspired by other retail stores around the world, Poetry decided to celebrate Mother’s Day a little different this year. Instead of the usual banners and reminders to get our mom’s the usual gifts of slippers and bath stuff, Poetry went a little more creative by hosting a live window-painting session.

Cape Town artist Megan Hart was selected to transform the store’s window’s into a little enchanted garden, with the V&A store getting that extra bit of va-va-voom from some Cape Town fashion peeps and bloggers. I was lucky enough to be one of the fabulous few to add my name to the stores windows.

After we’d had our fill of sushi and champers, we were even presented with a little gift from Poetry for our moms. Although if I’m honest it has and probably will remain in my care :)

If you’re in the vicinity, make sure you pop to the store and see the painting, it’s tres amazing.

Here are some other bloggers who also got to make their mark:

Nicole from Vintage Lifestyle Mag (can you see her in the background?)

Jean from Social Jeanius - a Style Scoop buddy of mine.

Back To Blogging

After an amazing holiday and break I’m back at work, back to blogging and feeling pretty good.

I hope everyone had a lovely festive season. Mine consisted of eating way too much delish food, praying it would go unnoticed at beach and avoiding the gym. I also spent lots of time with friends and the family and enjoying the fabulousness of Cape Town.

I also managed to try many new things throughout the holiday which I’ll be posting in the next few days.

But for the moment, it’s been great just catching up on all the blogs. Have missed you guys.

In the Past Two Weeks...

Things have been unusually busy in my life recently. Some of it for fabulous reasons and some for not-so-fabulous reasons. As a result my Twitter and blog have suffered. There have been many blog-worthy moments happening, just no time to actually document them. So to catch everyone up, here is what I’ve been up to:

…I’ve gone to our office year-end parties where I dressed up as an angel, stayed out till 4.30 am, kissed a boy with an accent and still woke up with no hangover.

…I’ve received an awesome hamper courtesy of NoMu. Along with Samma Designs, we entered their Aficionado pin-up competition and managed to win with our Mad Men-esque photoshoot.

…I’ve doubled my cinema visits of the past four months by going to watch The Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter.

…I’ve been to two fabulous events. Including the intimate launch of Vintage Lifestyle online magazine at Starlings coffee shop in Rondebosch and the press day at Press Stick’s new Press Room. I got a preview of the autumn collections for Witchery, Sissy Boy and Sunglass Hut. I also got a media pack which included a voucher for a free massage. Much-needed after this crazy time.

…I was one of three fashion bloggers to take part in a O Magazine photo shoot along with Dimi from Style Scoop and Miss Milli. I’ll be featured in the March issue talking all about Cape Town style.

…I’ve managed to put up the Christmas tree in the flat, decorated the fireplace and bookcase with holly and hung our stockings. I even know what I’ll be contributing to my family’s Christmas lunch. But I have yet to buy one present for a friend or family member. In fact, the thought of going to the shops scares me.

…no matter how full the diary is looking or how low the bank balance is dropping, this is definitely my favourite time of year. Things I’m looking forward to are going on leave later this week, hanging out with my gay best friends at Mother City Queer Project, tanning on the beach, singing carols by candlelight and welcoming my best friend to Cape Town.

What have you guys been up to?

Press Stick Spring/Summer Launch

A couple of weeks ago I attended the Press Stick Spring/Summer Launch.

It was held at Blonde restaurant in Gardens and was a great opportunity to see what trends we need to be rocking next season.

I also had the opportunity to meet a fellow Style Scoop writer (and fashion icon) Fashion Jazz. She is just as lovely and stylish as on her blog.

The event was fabulous. Got to meet some great people in the industry, perve over shoes, sip on cocktails and get new sunnies from Sunglass Hut. I've got a pair of new Bvlgaris that I love.

FJ has covered the event on her blog and on Style Scoop. So head on over if you want to see what trends will be big.

Photo Recap

It’s been forever since I actually blogged. Definitely not enjoying all this work, especially ‘cause it keeps me from the blogs and twitter. I’ve definitely missed reading your blogs and commenting.

Since I still have work piling up, I don’t really have time for a long post. What I can do is recap the past week. It’s been pretty amazing and what better way to do so than with the help of pictures.

Enjoy!

And have a lovely Wednesday!

Kelly Clarkson

As already mentioned the concert was pretty awesome. If you were a girl and showed up with a guy, he’d have either been gay, closeted or whipped. We choose our gays.

Here are some pics from Kelly. They’re not really good quality mostly ‘cause we were dancing and singing along too much but you can kinda make out it’s her.

St Patrick’s Day

Considering one half of Skinny Bitches is part Irish, we had to celebrate. So after the concert we headed to The Dubliner to celebrate. Single ladies, there have never been this many good looking guys in one room before. Wow! We didn’t know where to look. The place was packed though and as it was a school night we left after 1. Not sure how but I made it to gym the next morning. After that I was pretty fragile.

The Vibe Party

Thanks to our awesome friends The Wedding DJs, we were on the guest list for the 2oceansvibe party in Camps Bay. It was pretty awesome. Here’s Seth doing some Celine Dion. Blue Eyes was in heaven. I was in a not-as-happy place 

Here’s the boys doing their thing.

Skinny Bitches with some angel wings.

Here’s us with one half of the Wedding DJs.

Africhic Package

I was invited to the Africhic.com launch a while ago. It was lovely and I love the idea of buying clothes online. I decided to make my first purchase last week and I choose this dress by Michelle Ludek:

Yesterday it arrived. Am loving the packaging.

As soon as I have somewhere amazing to wear it too, I’ll take some pictures.
If you can, visit the site here. They have free delivery in SA and great service.

SA Flag Mirror Caps

I’ve seen these around on Minis everywhere and always wanted a pair. Then I found out, you didn’t need a Mini or had to pay for them. It’s a great (and free) initiative. Mini SA helped me out via Twitter and this morning I went to collect my pair. I ♥ them!

I have just discovered Miss Molly Fashions and I absolutely love it.

It's a local fashion blog with amazing dresses and even nicer prizes.

I would totally wear all of the stuff on the blog.

As soon as payday comes around I'll be buying these:

In & Out

I saw Ashwini do this over on her blog Clearly Beautiful and thought I’d shamelessly copy it.

In

Sales. Lots of fabulous clothes and homeware items are so much cheaper. Need to hit the shops.

Scrambled eggs on toast. My ideal choice would be with white bread and creamy eggs but since I’m trying to make lifestyle changes, I’ll settle Low GI bread and no sauces.

My new maxi dress. Have yet to wear it but just looking at it in my wardrobe is enough to get me excited.

Blue eye shadow. It makes an all-black ensemble pop.

Out

Money. Seriously. I am all out of it. One of the drawbacks about getting paid early in December.

The scar on my forehead. I burnt my skin whilst trying to curl my hair. I now have a ugly scar that makeup cannot cover up. On the plus side, my hair looked great, nice and natural-looking waves.

Push Play not sending us new DVDs. I saw Hairspray is next on our list. How can you deprive me of that? I want to get my Zac Efron on.

Something to Make You Giggle

Have you ever received an email or have been IMing with something and you read something so funny it makes you want to burst out loud with laughter. But because you're at work you can't really laugh loudly so you do that silent laugh where your body keels over and you start shaking 'cause you're trying to keep it all in and then your eyes start watering and then suddenly you're the weird girl who has convulsions at work?

Yes? No? Just me then?!

Anyway, I was informed of a blog that made me laugh in the above fashion. It's called Sleep Talking Man and it consists of a wife blogging about her husband's night time chattering. There is more to it but I didn't want to bore you with that. Instead check out my favourite snippets that he has said while asleep.

"You can't be a pirate if you don't have a beard. I said so. MY boat, MY rules."

"Your mum's at the door again. Bury me. Bury me deep."

"Don't... Don't put the noodles and the dumplings together in the boat. They'll fight! The noodles are bullies. Poor dumplings."

"I haven't put on weight. Your eyes are fat."

"Vegetarians will be the first to go. That's my plan. Vegans haven't got a hope. 'I eat air, I'm so healthy...' Bollocks!"

"I've got a really terrible terrible feeling about this custard tart. Terrible."

"I don't want to watch. I want to get my hands dirty, all the way up to my shoulder. Filthy."

"Since when did my underwear look good on you? Take it off. Take it off your face."

Award Season

My new obsession, apart from trying to find the perfect pair of gladiator sandals, is makeup. I have always worn makeup. Then I met two very special beauty therapists at my previous job and found out exactly how much one can do with makeup. Considering my new obsession, I am now besotted with makeup blogs. I’m loving the reviews, the trials and the opinions of bloggers. And frankly anyone who can use liquid eyeliner without smudging deserves a gold star in my book. I am still struggling. So thanks to all of you who have enlightened me with your makeup blogs. Keep on rocking!

So it is with great delight that I found out Skinny Bitches was nominated for an award. We love awards! And by a fabulous beauty blogger no less. (Go check out Eliza…her blog is faboosh).

Now here is what I have to do. Thank the person (Eliza, you rock) and then name 7 things that people might find interesting. I am also supposed to tag other blogs but I am very indecisive and cannot decide who gets what. So this once, if you feel you deserve the award, Gorgeous Blogger by the way, you can claim it!

*My ideal dinner party guests would include Madonna, Perez Hilton, Henry Cavill (just to look at, he doesn’t need to talk) and Carrie Bradshaw.

*I can fold my tongue in a weird shape. I used to think it was cool until someone told me it freaks them out. I feel like I have a superpower.

*My favourite X-men is Gambit.

*Whenever I wear new or pretty underwear I have an urge to show and tell people. I have been warned this is not appropriate behaviour particularly when at work or with a guy who is not gay. This makes me want to do it even more.

*I have sent through a postcard to Postsecret. It has yet to show up there. But I have identified with many of the secrets on there.

*I find numerous ways to say the phrase “crack-a-lacking” in conversations. I have even commandeered discussions so I can use it. I need help I know.

*I am thinking of deleting friends from Facebook if they keep on sending Farmville requests. If you're trying to avoid word, can't you be like me and blog rather ;)
