Tanqueray and Lindt Tasting

If there was ever a reason to believe in angels, it happened to me about two weeks ago. I was just checking my mail when bam! Into my inbox pops an invite to a gin and chocolate tasting workshop. This was my reaction.

Then I looked closer, this was not just any chocolate nor was it any gin, these were the big guns, the forerunners, the Tony Sopranos of the gang. I was going to a Tanqueray and Lindt Tasting. Can you deal? Because I can’t. I spent the whole of last week dropping names even when the conversation topic was nowhere now my subject. ‘Oh your aunt died, you know what you should serve at the wake? Gin. Speaking of…”

So I got together with one of my best gurls Sara and we made our way to the Lindt Chocolate studio at the Cape Quarter. When we arrived, I had to take a second. If you follow this blog and my tweets or had the sad misfortunate of seeing me at the shops, you’ll know, I am a fat kid. I live for carbs and sugar and chocolate is my church. So when I arrived at my version of St Paul’s, girlfriend had to take a moment and show some respect.

Once I had embarrassed Sara enough we made our way inside and found our seats near the front. As soon as we sat down, we were given these delicious gin gimlet cocktails. I’m sure we were told what was in them but all I remember was birds singing, the sound of the ocean and all my cares floating away. They were that good.

Then we got down to business. Tanqueray, already a master in quality and taste, teamed with Lindt’s Excellence chocolate range to create taste explosions in the form of new cocktails paired perfectly with different chocolates from the range. Thanks to a mixologist (a fancy term for a barman to the rest of us) and Lindt chocolatiers (super fancy chocolate person) we were given the background to gin, chocolate as well a demonstration on how to create these new cocktails and why these chocolates are so perfectly paired.

While we sipped our gimlets, we were given a history of gin. Did you know there are four types? Tanqueray is a Dry London, which means I still have three others to taste. I consider this research. We also got to have a look at what makes gin, gin. It’s a whole bunch of seeds and stuff. The finished project is a whole lot more exciting.

Next up was a mini lesson in how Lindt chocolate is made. I was really interested and keen until I got distracted. Right next to the lovely chocolatier, there was this machine from which chocolate poured out. Like liquid. I wanted to stick my head underneath and just lay there. But that type of behaviour gets you uninvited from PR lists so I had to stay put.

Enlarge the pic.
Then it got a little bit dirty. With the help of the fancy pants barman we learnt how to make cocktails. Apparently just pouring alcohol and a mixer is not a cocktail. Weird ;)

This is Sara doing her thang at an apple and gin mojito and the final product. This drink was delish and was paired with the Lindt Mint Intense.

Next up I had a go at trying to make a coconut and honey something. I really must take proper notes at these things. Boys, please note the wrist action and that I am available for dates. Also bring the Coconut Lindt, it’s amazing with this drink.

Sara then attempted her hand at this wasabi, cucumber concoction. She loved it. I pretended to when I was asked about it. Also the Wasabi chocolate is something I have avoided for ages. I tasted it here and while it’s tasty Imma gonna stick to my coconut one.

The final cocktail of the night consisted of raw eggs (for reals), caramel vodka, coffee liqueur, gin and something else. At this point, I had had three cocktails and really was game for anything. Until I remembered there were raw eggs involved. Can you tell how nervous I was. This one was definitely an acquired taste. But the white chocolate that came with it was insane. That is a winner.

So while my alkie-side was taken care of, my fat kid side was looking for some attention. She got it in the form of a chocolate fondant. We watched the boys mix stuff, fold stuff and put things into a piping bag. Let me tell you, it’s sexy. And the best bit, it only took 8 minutes to bake. And then whoop! There is it, chocolate fondant with coconut ice-cream. I literally had to will myself to take this picture before eating it. The smell was so intoxicating my will power disappeared.

Sadly then it was time to go but not before being rewarded with goodie bags. I say reward like I did something heroic. Inside the bag were recipe cards for Lindt and Tanqueray, a slab of Lindt and a whole bottle of gin. You see what I mean about reward?!

To all the angels I now believe in, thanks for getting us in and for having us. Your work is amaze.

Summer In the City

Last week I was lucky enough to be invited, along with some other bloggers to the Summer in the City event.
The event was held at I ♥ My Laundry which I really do heart and organised by Stiletto J who I also ♥.

We started the event with some fabulous infused drinks courtesy of Jorgensen's Distillery.  The venue was decorated fabulously and courtesy of some of the sponsors including Europa Art shoes and Cocoa Fair

For snacks, we got to try some of I ♥ My Laundry's new food venture, the first museli bar in Cape Town. They'll be serving this daily from 07h00. And if like me, you love some muesli, get on down to 59 Buitengracht street. It was delish and not just your standard swiss stuff. There was even talks of a chocolate muesli. Hawt damn!

Then came the experts. After every talk, there were prizes from each brand and some that didn't have reps there. We got to hear from three fab ladies who are all in the business of making other ladies look even better. We got to hear about Bisousoleil, a sunless tan range. If you're looking a bit pasty, there's a fab comp to win a little something something over here.

Then we got to hear all about Medi Heel; a chemical-peel like treatment for feet. We were also told about the fabulous revitalizing leg and foot spray, which is said to give your pins some life and a bit of shimmer. Best part is, it has a bit of Dolce & Gabbana in it, so it smells like heaven. To enter the comp, visit here.

And finally we got to hear about cupping from Bellabaci. Now if you're like me, you know cupping as that gross thing that Gwyneth Paltrow did and it left her with those weird marks on her back. As I found out, cupping can be used to detox, reduce stretch marks, combat cellulite and firm the skin and help with digestive disorders. I was certainly told.

After all the competitions, which I sadly didn't win - I'm bitter, can you tell - we had a chance to chill, have some more drinks and I may have helped myself to more than one piece of chocolate.

At the end, we all left with a fabulous goodie bag, which I couldn't resist to open straight away. There was more chocolate in there, can you blame me.

Thanks again to Jeanne from Stiletto Adventures for inviting me and the fabulous Laundry Boys for putting on a good show.

Dear Future Boyfriend, Part Three

Dear Future Boyfriend Part 3

I realize in my previous posts I have been a bit demanding and finicky. I realize I should just be grateful that my soul-mate has come into my life and all that nonsense. But I think divulging all this shit beforehand will really make our relationship withstand the distance and prevent fights about when we’re ready to have children and why you should never, ever leave the cheese container empty. But as this is a relationship and not just you adoring me for the rest of our lives, I have decided to board the ship (see what I did there?). I’m going to meet you in the middle and fill you in on the things I will and can do for you. After all if you’re willing to listen and abide to my craziness over here and here then it’s really the least I can do.

*Firstly I want to let you know I won’t moan about how much sports you watch. Granted it’s not the only thing you do. As long as there is a time where your ass isn’t on the couch with your remote in hand and you experience fresh air, I’ll be all good. I understand that watching sports with a beer in hand all day is akin to me watching Hell’s Kitchen all day in my underwear and the contents of my fridge spread out before me. We all have to unwind somehow. I won’t mind if you want me to even watch with you. I understand the offside rule, I can remember the season when Man United won the Treble and I even know that there’s a Cricket World Cup on. Also I love men who aren’t afraid to wear short shorts and I particularly love when hot men get all riled up about stuff that they swear and shout. Passion is sexy. There may be a few times when I nod off during a rugby game or surreptitiously check my blackberry during a non-league match but for the most I’ll be cheering with you.

*I’ve learnt to cook. Really, I have skills now. Before, my definition of cooking included adding bits of bacon to instant noodles and reheating frozen pies. Now I’m frigging Nigella Lawson and I have the curves to prove it. I can make you an array of dishes from risotto to home-made ravioli. I do this great herbed sweet potato mash and can make tender soy and honey chicken that’ll make you want to cry. I can even make my own pizza bases with my own home-made tomato sauce. And when we’re done with that...I’ll make dessert. Whether it’s cupcakes or cinnamon rolls or even those baby chocolate cakes that are all gooey inside for you Future Boyfriend I’ll do it all.

*I take care of the way I look. Mostly. I’m still trying to lose all my puppy fat and that weight from Christmas but I’ve started to work out again so at least we’re getting somewhere. But in all other areas I make an effort. I use Redken products for my hair which I know might sound like a foreign language or concept since a lot of boys I know seem to prefer the dreaded 2-in-1 variety of hair care. But it’s really good and costly. I always paint my nails and put on my face. Mostly out of common decency…me first thing in the morning can be quite scary so I’m doing my bit for humanity. I’ve thrown out any clothing items which may have been fad trends and I always avoid fashion that doubles as man-repellents. Most important, I’ve thrown out any graying, shapeless pair of underwear and replaced it with the sexy kind like in Secret Diary of a Call Girl and I only have one pair of fat pants.

Things I've Realised...

...making homemade ravioli is fun and can be easy. If you have a pasta machine. Chefs and foodies are not messing around when they say the dough needs to be crazy thin. We started with what seemed like the Kate Moss thinness of pasta but turns out we really needed the Nicole Richie circa Skeletor era of thinness. A pasta machine would have also been handy 'cause rolling out those shapes is a bitch. But once you're filling then up and boiling them, then adding heaps of pasta sauce and then sprinkling Parmesan on, you forget about all the other things.

...Precious is one hectic movie. There are lots of hand-over-mouth and eyes-closed moments but there are also some funny moments and inspirational moments.

...you never need a reason to google Henry Cavill. But because he's been chosen as the new Superman, people are not as judgmental.

...when you have a crappy day pizza, a romcom, your roomie and some chocolate can make it all better. I tried this yesterday and went to bed in a happy place.

Hope everyone has a fab week.

Mid-Week Notes

*Last night one of my fashion dreams came true. I was lucky enough to meet Chris Viljoen from Elle at the Witchery launch last night. I may have squealed and acted totally uncool but it was worth it. He is beyond fabulous!

*Speaking of Witchery, the brand is fabulous! It's very Country Road but a bit more grown-up and sophisticated. I attended the launch last night at St Ives in Camps Bay. There were lots of fashion peeps, pretty PR girls and some kick-ass motijos. The new winter range was showcased to the media and it's something to look forward to. There is this white shirt that I am prepared to sell my car, my bestie and my shoe collection for. It's that amazing.

*Tonight I'll be attempting to make a chocolate pie. Similar to the one in Julie and Julia. We're having our favourite gay best friends over for dinner and the evening calls for something special. If it flops, all those involved have promised to like it nonetheless. I have awesome friends.

*I'm getting excited for this time next week. I'll be going to the SA - USA soccer game at Cape Town stadium. Cannot wait to get out my yellow shirt and flag again. Also I cannot wait to get crunk ;)

Mid-Week Highlights

*Being sick is very uncool. Particularly when you have no idea what is really wrong with you. It feels like the flu at times. Other times I’ve suffering from acid reflux. Most of the time I have horrible sinuses and body aches. Being doped up on meds is not helping either.

*We all have talents and one of mine seem to be the ability to make awesome cinnabuns. They’re smaller than the ones you buy at restaurants, they don’t have the cream cheese sauce and they never look like the ones in the recipe book. Yet, they’re still awesome.

*Tonight after work I’ll be having a hot stone massage. I’ll also be going for a wax but I’m less-excited about that.

*I have two serious cravings at the moment. Pizza and Snickers chocolate. I’ve had two pizzas over the weekend and am trying to avoid another carb-overload this weekend. I don’t think I need to explain the Snickers craving. It is after all the king of chocolates.

*I found my navy Country Road cardigan which I was sure was taken by someone with impeccable style and taste. Turns out it had taken refuge in my swimwear and exercise wear drawer. Serves me right for not going to gym so regularly. Now I’m on the lookout for my Spice Girls Greatest Hits and my 50s style black skirt. I want them back bitches.

*I have discovered I have a problem with people I just meet being over-familiar. I try not to let it bother too much as people cope with next situations and people in their own ways. But still, it tends to bug me.

Have a fab mid-week!

Things That I ♥

Coffee

In the past couple of weeks, my love for coffee has turned into a full-on addiction. I have to make daily trips to Vida to get my latte fix. And that’s right I’m buying fancy coffee. My addiction is not only expensive it is also proud. No instant for me. After my second take away today I decided to put a spending ban on my wallet. Except me to look like one of the zombies from Shaun of the Dead without my caffeine fix.

The Beatles Songs

I’ve been playing Across the Universe soundtrack on repeat. I absolutely love the movie and anytime I hear the Beatles I smile. I’ve also discovered Rufus Wainwright’s version of the song Across the Universe and I have fallen in love with it.

The Easter Season

Finally a reason to enjoy chocolate without the guilt. My dietician is surprisingly not such a big fan. But I drown her out with some more chocolate.

Four Day Weeks

This is our second of three four day working weeks in SA. It’s bliss. Nothing gets you out of bed quicker than the thought that tomorrow is the last day before a four day weekend. I cannot wait!

Receiving Packages

I love getting mail. I hate when said mail is bills or junk though. I’m happy when it’s Pushplay with our new dvds and I’m even happier when it’s a package! Last week I received my dress from Africhic.com and today I received a fabulous Essie nail polish from the Bronx Ladies Footwear team. It’s a beautiful purple colour and it’s called Footloose. Considering I’m a huge fan of the movie and the song, I was over the moon. Will definitely be doing a mani this weekend.

I wish I received a random bonus with my payslip.
I'm jealous I didn't get to go to SA Fashion Week.

Monday's Mantra

This week we're going to see Kelly Clarkson.
I believe chocolate will be the undoing of all my weight loss.
I’m addicted to House Season 3 – so exciting.
I wish my hair wasn’t doing its own thing.
I’m jealous of people who still have cash left in their bank accounts…what’s up with that?

Things That I ♥

Good Times

Last week our office went out for a team-building event at LaserQuest. It was totally awesome to spend some fun time with the coworkers I like and I got to wear my jumpsuit and legwarmers which is always a good thing. I tried to use the name “Skinny Bitch” but it was just too long so instead I used Princess. Princess ended up coming fourth which I was really happy about it. Also the game was much more strenuous than I remember from my childhood days so I think I also lost a bit of weight. It would have been a plus if not for the pizzas and drinks we had after the game. The best part was hanging around in the bar afterwards and using the jukebox. Not sure what the allure of them are but I spent way too much money playing 80s songs and dancing by myself. Everyone else was playing pool but I’m crap at it. So I danced to Just Can’t Get Enough and You Shook Me All Night Long. Good times.

Bite-size treats

Chocolate covered romany creams. Romany creams are a chocolate biscuit with a chocolate bit in the middle. Now imagine them bite-size and covered in chocolate. I don’t think I need to go on.

Movies like Pretty Woman

Skinny Bitches watched this last night and realized apart from the whore part, we are so like the Julia Roberts character. We’re the type of girl who has random facts about body parts and the kind who sings Prince off-key in the bath and we’re totally the girl who says “Oh honey I got a runner in my pantyhose. I’m not wearing any pantyhose.”

Burberry Prorsum Autumn Show

The coats. The body con dresses. The thigh-high boots. The military theme. It’s tres love in the dark after lights out.

Working For The Weekend

When the weather’s good (and you’ve just been paid), weekends tend to be fabulous. This weekend was one of those. On Saturday, with the gym being firmly ignored, we went to try out the new Lazari in the Cape Quarter. For some reason, breakfast is always better when you get an outside table and are surrounded by some beautiful people.

Then it was off to my niece’s birthday party. When it comes to kids, I always thought I’d had two, a girl named Boleyn and a boy called Conor. They’d be ridiculously good looking and smart and Boleyn wouldn’t have the hair problems I have to endure. I’d also send them to one of those uber posh schools and they’d learn five languages and do a collection of extra-curricular activities. Witnessing 25 kids high on sugar, dressed up for Halloween and fighting over cupcakes was enough to put that fantasy to rest. In the end though, aided by good food and lots of champagne, we managed to have a good time. This good time was spent behind a closed door, away from the noise and watching the 5th season of The Office.

Later that night, after some serious prepping, we headed out for some boy hunting. We decided that instead of complaining that no one loves us, we would be brave and make them love us. In other words, we would actually go up to guys and make the first move. This was a lot easier after we finished a bottle of champers and put on Wonder bras. The venue in question was The Dubliner, known to all of Cape Town as an awesome place to get drunk and dance to old music. This is also now known as boy hunting ground. Most of the patrons are foreign, which is great if you’re a sucker for accents. We danced the night away and then got kicked out when the lights came on and the last round was served. They say dancing is a good workout. Judging by the pain in my legs, we must have done the marathon equivalent. It shouldn’t be this hard to climb stairs. I’m hoping a gym session later will help.

Other highlights include an amazing steak lunch, some episodes of House and a party pack from Saturday’s party. Those were reason enough to go to a child’s birthday party!

Hope everyone else had a good one.

A Little Bit of Nonsense...

If you ever have a slow day at work there are two fabulous things to make it better.

1. Go out for a latte; and

2. Read other people’s blogs.

Since I’m going out for a latte later, the blog updates have definitely come in handy. I just peaked over at Mrs C’s blog and she has been posting some great stuff that I will now shamelessly steal and post as my own.

So here are my 20 questions!

1. I don’t really think I can manage _______________ today.
Another guy’s hissy fits. They’re worse than girls sometimes.

2. What did you have for breakfast this morning?
The milo cereal. Mmmmm.

3. Share some recent good news.
We are moving out. Apart from that, my skin has cleared up.

4. What was the last movie you saw? What did you think of it?
The Hangover. Hilarious and full of hotties.

5. If you had to, could you do commentary for a sporting event?
Definitely. I’d do it for a soccer game. Talking about boys in shorts, I’d be fantastic.

Lots of sleep and watching the movie Footloose whilst sipping a chocholate Steri Stumpie.

7. What do you listen to in the car?
This morning it was Keane and then some Air Supply.

10. What was your first grade teacher's name?
Mrs Correira. She teaches my niece now.

4 but always as a flower girl. I’d cry if I was a bridesmaid four times over.

12. Who is on your "List"?
At the moment it’s Bradley Cooper.

13. I love you more than _____________.
McDonalds Quarter Pounder with cheese Supersized.

14. Oranges or grapefruit?
Grapefruit.

15. What is the earliest memory you have of your first day of school?
I remember not crying when leaving my mom for the first day. The next day I bawled.

16. Would you ever choose money over love?
depends who’s offering the love ;)

17. Four people who e-mail me regularly:
Blue Eyes, the Gay Best Friend, Blonde Princess and the Sports Fan

18. What were your favorite books as a child?
The Magic Faraway Tree rocked.

19. Never in my life:
Will I wear tye-dye.

20. Ever been given an engagement ring?
I didn’t like this question as a result of my singleness so I changed it to

20. What’s your favourite thing to sing in the shower?
And honestly it’s the soundtracks to Disney movies. I can belt out all of The Little Mermaid songs.

It's A (Loooong Easter) Weekend Baby!

Although there has been no progress on my greater goals I am in a fabulous mood.

My body is still impersonating that of a heifer, my job still sucks and I am still single. Also my roots badly need to be done. But as my bank balance has clearly been attacked by money pirates and my funds have disappeared I will be wandering the streets with half a head of chocolate brown hair and roots that look like they have been dunked in a coffee pot. Sexy huh!

On the bright side, it's a fabulous day in Cape Town, it's an extra long weekend and I have awesome plans. For starters, the Gay Best Friend is here from Durban. Cue lots of giggling and checking out cute boys. It's Easter, so a limitless supply of chocolate has descended upon my house. On Monday, is the Coke Zero Fest. Oasis, Snow Patrol, Panic at the Disco and a whole host of SA bands will be playing. I'm going with Blue Eyes, the Blonde Princess and the Sports Fan. I plan on attending in my best Kate Moss-at-Glastonbury outfit and being considerably drunk throughout. Also I get to finally see Brendan Urie from Panic in the flesh. He'll finally figure out we're meant to be.

And the other reason I'm also super happy, not forgetting the Will & Grace boxset I have yet to devour, is my heart songs. Inspired by Seth Rotherham's plea for his readers to send him their favourite gym songs, I have decided to post my favourite happy songs. These are the songs I could listent o all day and not get sick of. And no matter what, they always make me smile!

Green Eye's Top Ten Happy Songs
10. Counting Crows - Accidently In Love
9. Lipps Inc. - Funkt Town
8. Take That - Rule The World
7. The Cure - Friday I'm In Love
6. Belinda Carilisle - Leave A Light On
5. Captain and Tenille - Love Will Keep Us Together

um, Green Eyes, I think you're forgetting one small detail to that list of ours........

CHOCOLATE.....

You know, that brown silky smooth, luxurious tasting, endorphin releasing, I'd kill my own boyfriend for substance... No! (please leave this site now and never come back) I'm just slightly insulted right now that you would forget...but of course chocolate would be on the list. I live chocolate, I breathe chocolate, heck, I'd even date it if I could. Not to mention all the things you can do with it...now now, I meant things like making cake and hot chocolate...you all have dirty minds....(actually so do I) and gosh darnit, there goes my train of thought (Me&Edward ruling the world, Me Queen, him my chocolate serving slave....)
So YES Chocolate is def on that list and copius amount of it too!!!!!

Bitches Wish List Introduction

Welcome to the Bitches Wish List.

As we continue on our quest to be the perfect women with the perfect hair and jobs, we’ve come across things we want and things we desperately want. These are our wish list items…sure they will include things like complete happiness, travelling the world and winning a Nobel Prize. You know, the boring, clichéd bits. More importantly they’ll include the places we want to be, the boys we wanna kiss and the shoes we wanna own.

And so begins our list of things we want and desperately need!

An obvious starter but something every girl wants at one point in our lives.

Bitches Wish List # 1 – Queen of the World

Imagine how cool this job must be. Not only are you revered for being fabulous, you get to wear a tiara. It is one of my life’s ambitions to find a job where I can wear a tiara every day. I’ve tried it at my current company but all it attracts are stares and awkward smiles. Also you start to wonder why no one in the office is talking to you anymore. They think your crazy will rub off on them. Heads up, it’s not infectious!

Apart from the best reason to be queen of the world, you get to travel. Because the entire world is your domain. Feel like skiing (with a helmet – it’s dangerous) in the Alps, you can. Feel like sunning yourself on a yacht in Capri, you can! Shopping in Manhattan, you can! No need for silly visas and bad passport pictures. You just flash a smile and bounce!

I also like the idea of being waited on hand and foot. Sure, there are some stuff I’ll still do myself. Depending on how lazy I feel that day. But imagine, ring a bell and you get a Cosmopolitan. Two rings and they bring you some Ferro Rocher on a sliver plate. Three rings and they bring you a double cheeseburger with fries and a coke. No calories of course. As queen of the world, I’ve set the earth’s brainiest boffins to work on much more important things than another fuel option.

My foreign policy is a bit hazy but I will get back to that.

In essence, if I was queen of the world:

I would live here

I would date him

And I would wear these

I heart my job!
