This Week I...

...tried karaoke.

This new thing has been a long time coming. Firstly I love to sing and dance. The only problem is I'm not very good at it. The singing part, on the dancing front, I am a genius ;)

I think my fear of singing in front of people started when I played SingStar and the stupid avatar told me I was tone deaf. Therefore it was more out of consideration for others that I didn't sing out loud rather than I was afraid.

This year for Blue Eyes' birthday she decided to do some karaoke. It was the perfect time to try singing in public. So aimed with some of my best friends, a whole lot of pre-drinks and a rested voice we ventured out to find a karaoke bar.

The problem with finding a good (read classy) karaoke bar that's available on a specific night is tricky. So if you're willing to forgo a few things and get drunk, any bar becomes a good one.

The night started off with Blue Eyes' rendition of Kiss by Prince. Myself and my brother were next. I thought working with someone would diminish the shame and pain of peoples ears bleeding. After a roaring version of Thong Song though, I was a karaoke addict.

Other great highlights included my solo of We Belong by Pat Benetar, a crowd pleaser of Gay Bar with Samma Designs, friends doing a Rammestein song that was not in english and the Glee fans singing Don't Stop Believin'.

It was a fabulous night followed by some serious headaches the next morning.

How Do You Measure A Year

This past weekend we watched the movie version of the musical Rent. I don't like to mention names - Blue Eyes - but not everyone enjoyed it. I on the other loved it. While it's not happy like Hairspray or Mamma Mia! or romantic like The Phantom of the Opera, it's still a great musical. I suppose the subject material of AIDS, violence and drugs does not help matters.

While it is about those things, it also poses a very important question: How do You Measure a Year?

I'm paraphrasing from the song here but basically are you the type of person that measures your life in:

- minutes (
525 600 to be exact)
- daylights
- sunsets
- midnights
- cups of coffee
- inches
- miles
- laughter
- strife
- truths learned
- times cried
- bridges burned

In the end, they offer up love as a measurement of a year. The song is called Seasons of Love after all.

While I'd love to measure a year in love, I'm afraid it won't be a very long calculation. I have to wait for Bradley Cooper to wake up and realise that he loves me first :)

But from now on, I think the measurement of a year shouldn't be how many hours you spent a job you didn't like, or how many times you looked at your phone wishing he'd call or even all those moments spent cursing in traffic.

From now on, I'm measuring a year in how many good coffee dates I've had with Blue Eyes, the nights I danced with my gays to Glee, the laughs I've had with my brothers and sisters, and the times when I realised how lucky I am.

How do you measure a year?

Monday's Mantra

This week sees the start of a new fitness regime.
I believe all that early morning fresh air is making me sleepy.
I’m addicted to mini chocolate brownies, bright nail polish and the Glee soundtrack.
I wish I hadn’t walked in to a road works sign (in front of a cute guy by the way).
It’s sucky being a girl sometimes.

Happiness is...

…looking at your bank balance and realizing you’re not overdrawn.

…the thought of the 30 Rock seasons 1 &2 boxsets waiting for you at home.

…spending a whole weekend relaxing with your gays and roomie.

…finding new fonts and designs to redo your blog.

…being treated to a latte by your boss.

…receiving a Marilyn Monroe canvas from your brother for no reason.

…listening to old CDs that takes you back to the first time you went to a club, had a cocktail or had a really good kiss.

…Glee!

…chicken prego rolls at lunch with your office besties.

…lying in bed with a steaming cup of milo and a good book.

…looking at Henry Cavill.

Trying to be Positive

So yesterday was officially renamed The Day From Hell. So many bad things happened and I was on the verge of tears too many times.

I don't want to relive any of it, so instead of wallowing in self-pity - which I did for most of the evening yesterday, by the way depressed does not go well with a wrap dress - I have decided to remain positive. Especially since after all my shit went down, I saw someone who clearly had real problems. That put mine into perspective.

So I did what any skinny bitch would do, I put on my big girl pants, extra mascara and some high, high heels and I'm dealing with it. Actually that's a lie, my pants are not that big ;).

So in order to be happy I'm going to list some things that make me happy. Please feel free to add to the list. Have a great Thursday!

Lattes from Vida

Chuck Bass

Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster

Henry Cavil

Grumble, Grumble

Is it just me or does it seem like everyone has their perfect job and they just love boasting about it. I know they're not really boasting about it and even if they are, I shouldn't begrudge them.

If I had my perfect job you can bet my Twitter update would be all about me being a princess. FYI, my ideal job is really to become a princess. Realistically it's to be a journalist.

It's probably just the Monday blues or my coworkers annoying the hell out of me. Some people need a serious lesson on personal space. I have mine, you have yours, they should not meet. But it's been one of those down days. I couldn't even find the energy to comment on other blogs. And that is like one of the things I look forward to the most.

I'm no doctor but I am prescribing listening to the Hairspray soundtrack on my way home. No one stays mad whilst listening to You Can't Stop The Beat. Then I think a trip to Woolies is in order. I'm thinking prawn chips or one of those fat free milkshakes. Finally I'm going to put on my pajamas and watch Glee.

I'm already feeling better.

Things That I ♥ and Things That Bug Me - The Little Things Edition

Things That I ♥:

At the moment, nothing can beat a slice of crispy toast with a smooth layer of peanut butter and a latte for lunch. Munching on this while reading a Marian Keyes book is heaven. And a great way to relax when work is hard to handle.

Gossip Girl season three. Oh how I’ve missed Blair and Chuck. They really make the show. Serena’s okay but her outfits are a little slutty and she pulls this weird face when she’s trying to be all serious. And yeah for Hilary Duff! I totally loved Lizzie Maguire even though I was too old for it. But I couldn’t help it, the cartoon character was sooo cute. And I liked her platform sandals.

Christmas is around the corner. I am so excited to celebrate a Christmas in my own home. It’s definitely my favourite time of year. Everyone is happy and nice to each other. And I always get this warm, fuzzy feeling. I cannot wait to go shopping for the tree for the flat.

Finding the Cruel Intentions soundtrack when I thought I’d lost it. OMG, it is still as awesome as the first time I heard it.

Pringles…the salt ‘n’ vinegar flavour. Enough said.

Things That Bug Me

Grown-up mean girls. Seriously high school is over. Why do you have to say mean things to me to make you feel better. Can’t you just say it about a celebrity like the rest of us. You’re in your thirties so perhaps it’s time to grow up.

Not having the money to go shopping. An oldie but still a good one. I’m trying to save for Christmas presents so as a result, there are no new clothes or shoes this month.

My horoscope not making sense. Are good things on the way? I know it’s the person’s job to be cryptic but a little bit of a hint wouldn’t hurt.

Not having any more episodes of Glee. I need to know what happens next.

Creepy guys. Enough said.

Monday's Mantra

This week I will think nothing but positive thoughts.
I believe in faith, trust and pixie dust.
I'm addicted to watching TV series on DVD.
I wish I could go home, get into bed and watch Glee.
I'm jealous of people who have already been paid.
Soundtrack/Mantra for the week "It's good to see me, isn't it? No need to respond. That was rhetorical ;)"
