Letters To My Children
Under the moniker "Letters to My Children" you can rant and rant about all the stuff you learned and know and pass it onto your kids without sounding like a know-it-all. Which is something I really like. Under the guise of preparing your offspring for this world you can say what you want and no one can excuse you of being selfish. Which is awesome.
Now I don't have any kids and until Future Boyfriend comes along, those cute Asian babies we'll adopt are still a dream away. That however hasn't stopped me from preparing my Future Babies. Obviously I want them to stand up for their beliefs and be true to themselves and all that nonsense *but* more importantly I want to guide them through the little stuff.
So hear are my letters to my children...
...No one likes a smug bitch or a douche. Don't be either.
...Never be the car who has slowed down to look at an accident. It's common and it slows down traffic.
...Always be nice to people who serve you food. Just think of all the bad stuff they can do if you're not.
...Never save clothes, shoes or perfume for a special occasion. Make every occasion special. You'll regret never wearing all the pretty things.
...Learn to enjoy your own company. Seriously, sometimes all you need is a big bowl of pasta, fat pants and your favourite by yourself.
...Learn the words to the Beatles song. This will help on drunken nights out, pub quizzes and also it's some of the best music ever created.
...Go to the movies by yourself. On a weekday morning. Stretch out in the comfort of an empty cinema and chew your popcorn as loudly as you want.
...Girls, flats are for quitters ;)
...Never trust a guy/girl who wants to make a sex tape. And if you're the one who suggested it, we need to talk.
...Be nice to people even if you don't like them. It's not two-faced, it's being a bigger person.
...Learn to bake something particularly awesome. Like cupcakes or cheesecake or pecan pie. This is more for me in my old age and laziness than for your better self.
...Don't be afraid to dance. You may not have my skills on the dancefloor but that shouldn't stop you. And by skills I mean I can do the Footloose dance and the routine for Oops! I Did It Again.
...Do more things. Like bowling. I hated it when I was 10. I tried it again at 25. I didn't get better, I may have gotten worse but now I have an unflattering picture of me doing it. Memories.
...Make wishes at 11:11. Not sure why that time but just do it!

A Woman's Right To Shoes
In summary, I’m a big fan of heels.
Being blessed not only with curves and gaydar, I also am vertically challenged. Which means heels are my saving grace. I instantly go from knocking into average size people’s knees to knocking into their shoulders. Now as an avid heel wearer I must admit something. Even though I’d be nothing without them, there are times when these little beauties can hurt. I’ve found that I can usually manage a full day of heels without complaints. It’s what happens after I leave work that’s the problem. If I have a shopping errand, those fierce heels that have made my outfit start making me use four-letter words. If I go dancing and have not had the benefit of a foot massage beforehand, when you see me shouting my way through Don’t Stop Believin’ it’s really me trying to channel the pain somewhere else.
So when some angels dropped off this little number I was overjoyed.
Kiwi’s Smiling Feet are a gel cushions that can be slipped into your heels and can alleviate some of that pain it takes to look good. Those clever peeps have even gone one further by creating an entire range of gel cushions to treat several different areas that might that can be a tad uncomfortable.
I’ll definitely be pairing these handy little things with all my heels. After all, why should we gals compromise on style.

Shopping, Style and A Return To Happiness
Last week was not a good week. But I am happy to report that the bad vibes are gone and I am feeling much better. For a start my skin is clearing up. Largely to these great products from the new Dermalogica range, Clean Start. They’re for teenage and young-adult skin. I might act like a teenager most of the time but my birth certificate states otherwise. I’m currently using the scrub and mask duo. It’s a-mazing! You apply it like a mask, let it set and then you wet your fingertips and massage it in and tada! It’s an exfoliating scrub. I’m also using the spot treatment and I’m hooked. If it was a guy I’d dedicate him cheesy love songs and write his name all over my notepad.
In other news, shopping played a major part in the past weekend. Both grocery and personal shopping. It’s really nice to have a well-stocked kitchen again after that bad week before you get paid. I take advantage of my mom and dad’s house a lot that week. On the shopping front, I really needed some new shoes. I was hoping to get a pair of gladiator heels for some summer loving. There is this Jimmy Choo pair that I absolutely love. And I found a local equivalent. But sadly they didn’t look as good. So I’m still on the hunt for those. In the meantime, I bought a cute pair of black peep-toes that I cannot wait to wear. I also bought a black Grecian dress. It’s long and flowy and makes “the girls” look amazing. Now I’m looking for some gold rope to create a make-shift belt.
Based on the trends in the shops, Grecian along with boho chic and the 80s will be huge. I don’t want to be a trend victim so I’m approaching these trends with caution. Especially after this past weekend. I walked into Jay-Jays hoping to construct the perfect hipster look. I do live in the city centre now, you know ;). I gravitated towards the coloured jeans, slogan tees, cardigans and wet look leggings. But then I found myself next to a group of 12 year-olds who were obviously doing the same. They were dressed head-to-toe in skinny jeans, converse shoes and tight tees. I swear if I looked in their bags, they would all have multi-coloured wayfarers. That was then I realized I was so not going to try and follow a trend. But rather incorporate a trend into my personal style. While I cannot pull off brightly coloured skinny jeans, I can rock skinny jeans with some killer heels. While every other hipster is sporting boyfriend cardigans and tights instead of pants, I will be donning a boyfriend cardi and a cute dress. What I lack in warfarers I will be making up in trilbys.
So far it’s been a good week. I’d rather it be weekend but I can deal till then. Hope everyone else is having a good one.

(Fashion) Rant For The Day
"I, for one, am over the mania for the high, high heel. Too many career women look like a herd of fashion beasts, aping one another in impractical shoes.”

And while I agree with him on the imagery, I will certainly not give up my high heels. I am short. Like super tiny and without my heels I just look like a teenager who's trying to get into a club. Hence the numerous times bouncers have stopped and asked me for my ID. This is usually followed by a long hard stare at the date of birth, a moment to work it out, a puzzled double take look and then finally resignation as they have to let me into the club. So as a proud high heels wearer, let's do away not with the ridiculously high works of art. Instead let's get rid of those girls who make the rest of us look bad. And I'm not talking about the people who only wear high heels on weekends. You're forgiven for stumbling. I'm talking about the girls who wear high heels day in and day out and still look silly. And to one of these girls that I know personally, still trying to wear high heels, even though you can't, while having a broken toe is not brave. It's dumb and all the fashionistas of the world would agree.
That's all!
