This Weekend I...

...will be taking advantage of Neighbourhood's drink specials.

...will be dressing up as an angel for a Halloween party.

...will be taking my niece for a manicure and pedicure for her birthday.

...will be drinking to deal with the all the children at said niece's birthday.

...will spend some time at the parents place, enjoying attention, satellite TV and free food.

...will try not to give into the jubilation of having money again. Need to make salary last until the end of next month.

Hope you have a great weekend planned!

Classic Movie, Classic Quote

Don: Hey, Napoleon. What did you do last summer again?
Napoleon Dynamite: I told you! I spent it with my uncle in Alaska hunting wolverines!
Don: Did you shoot any?
Napoleon Dynamite: Yes, like 50 of 'em! They kept trying to attack my cousins, what the heck would you do in a situation like that?
Don: What kind of gun did you use?
Napoleon Dynamite: A freakin' 12-gauge, what do you think?

This Week I...

...went to Kalk Bay.

A little disclaimer before I start this post. I am the youngest of four children and there are big gaps between us siblings. So while I know my parents love me, there are many things they’ve done and seen before I was born. Therefore by the time I came along, there wasn’t much need to do these things again. For example road trips to exotic places were not high on the list of things to do on a Sunday.

So when I announced to my besties that I think a trip to Kalk Bay was in order, a chorus of “You’ve never been to Kalk Bay” erupted. Yes it’s true, please refer back to the above disclaimer.

This Sunday armed with a whole bunch of cool people, we headed to the vibrant fishing village for some brunch and browsing. After a delish meal and milkshake at The Home of Waffles and Pancakes, we took a stroll through the town.

If unlike me, no one has told you about this gem of a town, I suggest you make your way there. It’s a fabulous mix of restaurants, deli’s, antique shops, vintage shops, décor/furniture stores and art galleries.

Monday's Mantra

This is my last week at work. Start an exciting new job next week!
I believe brunch with my besties is the only way to spend a weekend.
I’m addicted to dreaming tropical holidays.
I wish I wasn’t so plagued by body issues.
It’s sucky that time has flown by so quickly.

This Week I...

This week I…

…went to the Slave Lodge

When I was in school I never paid much attention when we did museum, planetarium and zoo trips. Now that I’m older and can think about more than getting up early to watch Saturday morning cartoons I am desperate to go back and learn some culture.

One of the places we never went on a school trip was the Slave Lodge. Before I knew exactly what it was, it was just another building. After what seemed like years, I finally found some time to make a visit.

The Slave Lodge is situated on the corner of Wale and Adderley street in the centre of Cape Town. It’s part of the Iziko Museums in South Africa that include the Plantetarium, South African Museum, and National Gallery. It’s also one of the oldest buildings in Cape Town.

The lodge was built in 1679 and was used to house slaves from the Dutch East India Company. What was surprising to learn is that many slaves were not South African or even African. Many were brought from other routes and placed here. What was even more surprising was the amount of leniency experienced by the slaves. It seemed once at the lodge, many slaves were able to marry, become free and own land.

One of my favourite parts of the lodge was the memory wheel. You can spin it around and round to see over 8000 names of the people once housed at the slave lodge.

Another part I enjoyed was the Nelson Mandela exhibition. It’s similar to the one at the Apartheid Museum just not as in-depth. It traces his journey from a young man to his humanitarian work and retirement now.

The lodge is open every day except Sundays and is super cheap to visit.

Monday's Mantra

This week is the start of exciting new things.
I believe no decision is the right one.
I’m addicted to English toffee frozen yoghurt, So You Think You Can Dance and nachos.
I wish I could jump ahead one month.
It’s sucky that yesterday’s gorgeous day was not spent at the beach.

Mid-Week Highlights

*Being sick is very uncool. Particularly when you have no idea what is really wrong with you. It feels like the flu at times. Other times I’ve suffering from acid reflux. Most of the time I have horrible sinuses and body aches. Being doped up on meds is not helping either.

*We all have talents and one of mine seem to be the ability to make awesome cinnabuns. They’re smaller than the ones you buy at restaurants, they don’t have the cream cheese sauce and they never look like the ones in the recipe book. Yet, they’re still awesome.

*Tonight after work I’ll be having a hot stone massage. I’ll also be going for a wax but I’m less-excited about that.

*I have two serious cravings at the moment. Pizza and Snickers chocolate. I’ve had two pizzas over the weekend and am trying to avoid another carb-overload this weekend. I don’t think I need to explain the Snickers craving. It is after all the king of chocolates.

*I found my navy Country Road cardigan which I was sure was taken by someone with impeccable style and taste. Turns out it had taken refuge in my swimwear and exercise wear drawer. Serves me right for not going to gym so regularly. Now I’m on the lookout for my Spice Girls Greatest Hits and my 50s style black skirt. I want them back bitches.

*I have discovered I have a problem with people I just meet being over-familiar. I try not to let it bother too much as people cope with next situations and people in their own ways. But still, it tends to bug me.

Have a fab mid-week!

This Week I...

…went to a drag show.

On Sunday night, Skinny Bitches and their favourite gays headed over to Beefcakes to have some cocktails, some nibbles and watch a drag show.

I started the night off with an Apple Be Martini and it was delish. Definitely the best apple martini I’ve tasted in Cape Town.

Once we’d eaten – an assortment of mini burgers, nachos and potato wedges – we anxiously awaited the arrival of Ms Venus Mercedes.

She appeared in a wave of smoke and glitter. Okay not really but it definitely sounds better then she walked up a flight of stairs and burst into a show tune.

The show was great. Apart from costume changes, sexy dance moves and some Liza covers, Ms Mercedes also talked us through her experience with love. Being a predominantly gay space, I did expect a chorus of “You don’t need to tell me about heartache, darling” but alas nothing.

Well I enjoyed the show, I always feel I could do better. It’s all those hours of watching Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

The only thing I’d struggle with is my drag name. I have an awesome stripper name but a drag name needs a touch of class.

Any suggestions?

Reasons to Smile

Normally a Friday is enough reason to smile. Today I have a few more reasons:

*I've been listening to Alphabeat on repeat.

*I won this competition on Robyn Cooke's blog. I got this amazing prize.

I absolutely heart Nina Garcia and have two of her previous books. I was very excited to add it to my collection.

*Someone introduced me to the Shoe of Prey website and I am in heaven.

*Once upon a time Samie told me he once listened to the same Enya song 16 times in a row without realising it was on repeat. What does that say about Enya?!

*The roses my gays gave me for date night are still looking fresh and pretty.
*It's the weekend baby!

Have a great one!

This Week I...

…went to watch Grease at the Odeon Cinema.

Please note the very Sandy-esque outfit.

Skinny Bitches were very lucky to be invited to a very fabulous event this past week.

The Dealio: The Pepper Club Hotel in Cape Town hosts monthly-themed movie and dinner evenings. Guests are treated to dinner, wine tastings, drinks, tasty treats, prizes as well as a goodie bag. Not to mention getting to enjoy an awesome movie.

The Venue: The Pepper Club can be found in Loop Street, Cape Town. Think movie-style hotels. The kind where doormen greet you instead of wondering why you’re there. With all the pretty people drifting in and out of the lobby, I half expected Richard Gere to pop out somewhere and offer me some money to spend some time with me. It’s that classy a place! Also it has a very fabulous bar called the Paparazzi Bar which apart from great drinks, has huge containers filled with sweets, chocolates and chappies gum; drinks and sweets, my kinda place.

The Paparazzi Bar

The Theme: One of my guilty pleasures is dancing movies. Seriously no matter how awful the dialogue, I’m talking to you Step Up 3D, I can handle it as long as there are some awesome dance routines in the middle. So I was beyond words happy when I found out that we’d be watching Grease. Even better, the whole theme was centered around Summer Loving.

The Venue

The Event: The event started with some old-school soda pop, snacks and wine from Leopard Leap. We were then ushered into the cinema and settled in with some popcorn and coke floats.

Skinny Bitches rocking it

The movie started and I’m not gonna lie, I sang along. Halfway through though the movie stopped. Luckily it had nothing to do with my singing but more with the amazing food awaiting us. That’s right, even more food! And even better, there was a waffle station with enough toppings to put you into a diabetic coma. I may have made more than one venture over there :)

The Waffle Station aka Heaven

Once we’d eaten enough and made sure the rest of the weekend would be spent at the gym, we finished the rest of the movie. Afterwards we were all told to look under out seats because there were some awesome prizes laying around. I was lucky enough to have one prize which is a pole-dancing lesson! Stay tuned to the blog cos that will definitely be an interesting experience.

Feeling Hot Hot Hot!

As any skinny bitch in the making can attest, it’s what’s underneath that counts.

And when what’s underneath is lingere, you know it’ll count for a lot. I’m a firm believer that wearing the right underwear can make a difference. I’m not talking about getting the right bra size or magic knickers although they’re both very important. I’m talking about the confidence a sexy pair of knickers and bustier can bring to a girl. It makes you smile, it makes you glow and it makes you feel like you’re a keeping a very juicy secret.

Therefore when news that an ultra-sexy lingerie brand had launched in South Africa, my ears pricked up.

Baci Lingerie is a new underwear brand that has been causing a stir(ring) around the world ;) What makes it so fabulous though is that it combines sensual lingerie with affordability. So we can all look uber-sexy without our bank accounts suffering.

Even more exciting, there may be a little sexy number from the brand making its way to one of our awesome followers. So keep an eye out.

If you want to find out where to purchase or just to look at the pretty pieces, you can head over to their website.

Michelle: What are you picking on us for any way? We are NOT the ones who got fat.
Christie: We're pregnant, you half-wit.
Michelle: Oh yeah? Well, I hope your babies look like monkeys!
