Trying to be Positive

So yesterday was officially renamed The Day From Hell. So many bad things happened and I was on the verge of tears too many times.

I don't want to relive any of it, so instead of wallowing in self-pity - which I did for most of the evening yesterday, by the way depressed does not go well with a wrap dress - I have decided to remain positive. Especially since after all my shit went down, I saw someone who clearly had real problems. That put mine into perspective.

So I did what any skinny bitch would do, I put on my big girl pants, extra mascara and some high, high heels and I'm dealing with it. Actually that's a lie, my pants are not that big ;).

So in order to be happy I'm going to list some things that make me happy. Please feel free to add to the list. Have a great Thursday!

Wishful Thinking

Blue eyes is doing this great thing where she is going to be positive for the whole week. She’s also not going to be guilted in working later when everyone else goes home. And she’s not going to complain. I wish I could do the same.

The truth is, I actually am a positive person. I constantly believe good things are on their way. This is not to do with me just having faith but also when things are pretty shitty you kinda have to hope that they can never get worse.

And this morning, despite it being a Monday, I was still pretty chipper and set about my day. I would still be peachy keen if it weren’t for some of the people I work with. This is not the career path I imagined nor is it one I really like. Hell, it’s not even a career. It’s something I do until the my ship comes in (see that faith there).

That however does not give you people the right to treat me like your personal assistant and dogsbody. It’s not the work you want me to do, if it’s in my job description I will do it gladly. It’s the way you ask me. Or as I’ve noticed lately, the way you demand of me. I may be lower in terms of hierarchy and definitely in salary but I still matter. You don’t have to be overly nice to me, you don’t have to even like me but you do have to have some courtesy.

Also if you borrow my stapler, punch, glue or pair of scissor. Put them back. Jeez louise. Nothing is more bugging when I have to do a trek around the entire office to find my shit. And to the person, you know who you are, when I ask about it, please do not feign surprise. We both know it was you and your acting skills are nothing to write home about.

Okay, now that that moany cow session is over, I think I’m going to join Blue Eyes in Postive Land.

Have a great week bitches.

Monday's Mantra

This week I will think nothing but positive thoughts.
I believe in faith, trust and pixie dust.
I'm addicted to watching TV series on DVD.
I wish I could go home, get into bed and watch Glee.
I'm jealous of people who have already been paid.
Soundtrack/Mantra for the week "It's good to see me, isn't it? No need to respond. That was rhetorical ;)"

Another Flat Update

On Monday, Skinny Bitches had an impromptu flat viewing. As a result, we have no pictures. But trust us, it's a keeper!

This flat is situated in Tamboerskloof right around the corner from Beleza restaurant, the home of the cheap breakfast. Already makes it a winner in our book. It's a cute little area with other coffee shops and guesthouses. Also it's very leafy so it's all the homeyness of suburbia with the bustle of the city thrown in.

It's a ground flat with parquet flooring. The rooms have built-in-cupboards and are fairly large. The kitchen has some sort of red cupboard design-y thing going on, which isn't that great 'cause it will clash with all of our pink accessories. But we will learn to deal.

The bathroom has a shower over the bath, another item I have am dealing with, but at least the geyser is on the other side of the room. It gives the bathroom a much roomier feel. And there's this cute little cabinet which I cannot wait to put all my beauty products in.

We're not sure what it is about the place but we both loved it. It was just an instinctive feeling. And so, we're going to go for it. Eeeek! This is a big step for us. We have seen many places and still have quite a few more to go, but there is something about this place. Wish us luck because there are a million things that are against us. Mostly the fact that I spent my deposit savings on a pair of brown boots. Also it's available for July and we only want it in August. What are the chances the rental agency will be sympathetic and say "Shame, we can lose a month's rent so they can live their dream."

We have faith! And we're lighting every candle. throwing coins in every fountain and blowing away all our eyelashes. Although we have the faith, a little wishing won't harm us.

We Have Faith...The Skinny Bitches Progress Report

This weekend, I was rushing to get to my hair appointment on time when I realised that I didn't have a CD to listen to.

I grabbed one of my old compilations I made years ago. And it taught me a few things:
1) no matter how much I profess about my excellent music taste, I'm actually wrong;
2) when making compilations I should try and keep genres together (Basement Jaxx and Papa Roach, good lord); and
3)a good song, no matter what it is can remind you how awesome life is.

My song was Dream by The Everley Brothers. Before you judge me for this song or even query it's existence on my CD, see above.
I remember hearing this song in an old made-for-tv 50s movie. My mother also used to sing the first line (dream, dream, dream) to me. Not to encourage me but to discourage me from wanting things I didn't need.

As I thought about the song, and my deprived childhood, I realised, we, Skinny Bitches are getting closer to our dream. Or should I say dreams. But one at a time. Although they're little steps, we're making a glittering trail towards our first apartment, our dream jobs and boyfriends.
Firstly, it's June so we can officially start looking for a flat for August. We're getting all our donated furniture together and we're so happy. Mostly because we have all the expensive items and also because we can spend the rest of our savings on booze and fancy light fixtures. We're finally growing up.

On the job front, Blue Eyes is doing fabulously as an account executive while I'm testing the waters of magazine journalism. There's not much out there but everyone in publishing now has my contact details and I'm hoping it's just a matter of time before they start knocking.

On the boys front, no cute boys to kiss corners yet. But we're both making efforts so that when they fall head over heels in love with us, they won't be disappointed. I am going to gym four times a week. If I build the perfect body, he will come! And Blue Eyes, she got herself a new bed, so she's hoping he'll also come!

In all, we're edging our way there. It may be slow but we always have faith that it will happen.

After all you need is faith, trust and pixie dust.
