Get Ready For The Weekend - Competition Time

You know how people tend to ask you what you’re doing on the weekend and you’re all like “It’s only Tuesday. I haven’t thought about it yet.”

And then all of a sudden you cannot stop thinking about it. Suddenly your fingers are all tingly and you start sweating. I have no weekend plans. I have no weekend plans. You start rocking back and forth and wonder when did it get all dark and cold. Okay maybe it’s not that bad but you still end up in a bit of a flurry.

Luckily I have the solution. At least for this weekend.

If you’re in the Cape Town area and just love, love, love visiting markets, listening to live music, and mixing with some of the most fabulous, creative peeps in the city, then you’re in luck. The first ever Bay Harbour Market Jol is happening on 11 June and Skinny Bitches have a couple of sets of double tickets to give away.

All you have to do to win tickets to this amazing event is send one little email to skinnysbinthemaking@gmail.com. It’s that easy and then you can be one of those smug people with weekend plans that send others into a panic :)

Good luck bitches!

This Weekend I...

...will be taking advantage of Neighbourhood's drink specials.

...will be dressing up as an angel for a Halloween party.

...will be taking my niece for a manicure and pedicure for her birthday.

...will be drinking to deal with the all the children at said niece's birthday.

...will spend some time at the parents place, enjoying attention, satellite TV and free food.

...will try not to give into the jubilation of having money again. Need to make salary last until the end of next month.

Hope you have a great weekend planned!

This Week I...

...went to Kalk Bay.

A little disclaimer before I start this post. I am the youngest of four children and there are big gaps between us siblings. So while I know my parents love me, there are many things they’ve done and seen before I was born. Therefore by the time I came along, there wasn’t much need to do these things again. For example road trips to exotic places were not high on the list of things to do on a Sunday.

So when I announced to my besties that I think a trip to Kalk Bay was in order, a chorus of “You’ve never been to Kalk Bay” erupted. Yes it’s true, please refer back to the above disclaimer.

This Sunday armed with a whole bunch of cool people, we headed to the vibrant fishing village for some brunch and browsing. After a delish meal and milkshake at The Home of Waffles and Pancakes, we took a stroll through the town.

If unlike me, no one has told you about this gem of a town, I suggest you make your way there. It’s a fabulous mix of restaurants, deli’s, antique shops, vintage shops, décor/furniture stores and art galleries.

Monday's Mantra

This is my last week at work. Start an exciting new job next week!
I believe brunch with my besties is the only way to spend a weekend.
I’m addicted to dreaming tropical holidays.
I wish I wasn’t so plagued by body issues.
It’s sucky that time has flown by so quickly.

Reasons to Smile

Normally a Friday is enough reason to smile. Today I have a few more reasons:

*I've been listening to Alphabeat on repeat.

*I won this competition on Robyn Cooke's blog. I got this amazing prize.

I absolutely heart Nina Garcia and have two of her previous books. I was very excited to add it to my collection.

*Someone introduced me to the Shoe of Prey website and I am in heaven.

*Once upon a time Samie told me he once listened to the same Enya song 16 times in a row without realising it was on repeat. What does that say about Enya?!

*The roses my gays gave me for date night are still looking fresh and pretty.
*It's the weekend baby!

Have a great one!

Monday's Mantra

This week Princess Sarah arrives!
I believe work is taking its toll on my immune system.
I’m addicted to KFC’s cream cheese and sweet chili wrap, 8 Out of Ten Cats and Geraldine by Glasvegas.
I wish being sick didn't affect my skin. Isn't feeling terrible bad enough.
It’s sucky that the weekend seemed to disappear and it’s Monday again.

End of the Week Notes

*My new favourite show is Modern Family. It’s the perfect fill-in while I wait for the new seasons of 30 Rock and Glee. My favourite characters are Cam and Manny.

*Starting the day with a bacon and cheese crossiant from Jardine Bakery is awesome. My brother and I headed over for an early breakfast. They also serve Deluxe coffee which I love so it was a double score.

*It’s Blue Eyes’ birthday today. Happy Birthday to an awesome roomie and friend!

*This picture from The Sartorialist makes me want to buy lots of dresses and count down the days to summer.

*Peanut butter on toast is the bomb diggidy and my new favourite snack.

*Have found the motivation for gym. Stop going for four months and discover that you’ve gone from an hourglass figure to a blob. Then look at yourself in the mirror. Result? I’ve been to gym all week.

*Alphabeat is the happiest music you’ll ever hear. It’s even happier than ABBA.

Have a fabulous weekend bitches!

I wish I'd gotten more sleep.

Weekend Highlights

The weekend started off on a fabulous note on Friday. It was one of our very special friend’s birthday and we joined her at Tiki Bar at Eden on the Bay for some cocktails.
Had some amazing cosmopolitans at that place. Nice casual vibe and right on the beach. Definitely would recommend. The lighting and light rain also gave it a nice touch!

On Saturday, I decided it was time to finally try out TRUTH in Green Point. I have heard so many fabulous things about the place and decided had to see what all the hype was about. TRUTH is located in the Prestwich Memorial off Somerset Road in Green Point. It’s not too big but has all the essentials for an awesome coffee shop. I had some great service, an excellent latte and a new spot to take friends too.

Afterwards I made a quick stop at the Friends with Jenny Open Day. I bought a great brown waist belt and a fab winter shrug. I cannot even tell you about it the shrug, it is so beautiful and versatile. Will definitely have to take pics and show you what it looks like and how it can be worn. Also don’t forget to check out FWJ’s new website. It’s great!

I’m not sure what came over me but on Sunday I offered to make lunch for my (large) family. I blame it on Julie & Julia. It made me think I could bring out my inner Nigella and cook. The main problem is my mom. She used to be a caterer, she can cook backwards and usually she prepares those amazing meals for Sunday lunch. My speciality is potato bake and those convenience meals from Woolworths.

In the end I opted for some chicken – ‘cause no one can mess up chicken – and then some pasta (a sweet potato and butternut lasagna). The pasta turned out really good, or my family are really nice at not hurting my feelings. Dessert was supplied by my mom because there was only so much I could accomplish. She made some great cupcakes and it’s even greater that she left the rest with me!

So, how was your weekend?

Weekend Highlights

Friday…it was my younger brother’s birthday so we all went out for din dins at Royale. Had the most amazing burger with pepperdews and mustard sauce. And of course, the sweet potato chips. They are reason enough to go there.

Saturday…Skinny Bitches got treated to brekkie by the older brother at Viola! at Cape Quarter. Had a fabulous omelette, a skinny latte and then did some walking around. It was also Pride so we watched the floats and cheered the gays on! A little later we went to the spa. Blue Eyes was lucky enough to get a hot stone massage. I was not as lucky as my appointment was for a bit of waxing. A quick cocktail at Primi – drinking in the afternoon is soooo much fun - and then we had to get ready for Decodance. We had an awesome time dancing to the 80s and 90s. And there are lots of nice boys too. Definitely going to be one of our regular haunts. Also discovered Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the few songs everyone knows the words too…Mama I just killed a man.

Sunday…aka the hottest day ever. We were invited to a friend’s birthday party which consisted of pizza, drinks, ice-cream and a pool. In 38 degree heat, I don’t think I need to go on.

What was your weekend like?

Friday Fun

Those who read the blog constantly know I have a huge girl crush on Robyn Cooke.

Those of you will also know it was my dream to be shot and put onto her blog Style Guide Cape Town. A couple of months ago I even made it on there (you can see the pic here but no judgements, my hair looks terrible).

Ever since then my next aim is to be shot by The Sartorialist. Something that will take a lot longer to happen. But I'm still holding fingers. If you like me have these stylish dreams then look below for the how-to guide from Refinery 29. *Click on the pic to enlarge it

It's an oldie but a goodie.

Have a great weekend bitches.

Weekend News

On Friday the girls and gays went to see The September Issue. I think I love Anna Wintour even more. No matter if you’re interested in fashion or even care about Vogue magazine, you need to see this movie.

On Saturday, it was my birthday! I got given a lovely present by my roomie and fellow skinny bitch and then we went out for breakfast. We also did a little window shopping and found some amazing dresses. Only problem is, we’re crazy broke and it was the hardest thing to put them back because we need to spend our money on food and petrol. Too bad those dresses can’t do that.

Later that day, the gays came over again and we had a getting ready party for that evening. We started the night at Boo Radleys with friends and families. I was totally spoilt. Not only by the great cosmos. Not too sweet and not too sour but perfect. And I got amazing gifts. It was awesome. So awesome in fact that I think I may have to celebrate it again in six months. Birthdays totally need anniversaries. After cocktails, we headed to the Dubliner where drinks were doubled, I hurt Blue Eyes when I tried to do the jumping lift from Dirty Dancing and almost slapped a girl who kept dancing in our area. “Bitch, that’s my song. I need to break it down.”

The next morning, however, was not so awesome. The last time I was that hung-over was the year before, also at my birthday. I did not feel good. It got so bad I had to go home to my parents house so my mom could look after me. In the end I had to sleep it off and later that evening when I eventually came to, I was ravenous. After 10 hours of sleep, I ate everything in my way. I’m back to feeling normal but am still pretty dehydrated so have attached a large water bottle to my side.

Hope everyone else’s weekend was just as fabulous.

Bloc Party - The Prayer

Still one of my all time fav songs.

Lord, give me grace and dancing feet
And the power to impress
Lord, give me grace and dancing feet
Let me outshine them all

Is it so wrong to crave recognition?
2nd best runner up
Is it so wrong to want rewarding?
To want more, than is given to you

Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm I will slice I will dazzle them with my wit
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm I will slice I will dazzle
I will outshine them all

Standing on the packed dance floor
Our bodies throb in time
Silent on the weekdays
Tonight I claim what s mine

Is it so wrong to crave recognition?
2nd best runner up
Is it so wrong to want rewarding?
To want more, than is given to you

Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm I will slice I will dazzle them with my wit
Tonight make me unstoppable
And I will charm I will slice I will dazzle
I will outshine them all

Have a great weekend bitches!

Working For The Weekend

When the weather’s good (and you’ve just been paid), weekends tend to be fabulous. This weekend was one of those. On Saturday, with the gym being firmly ignored, we went to try out the new Lazari in the Cape Quarter. For some reason, breakfast is always better when you get an outside table and are surrounded by some beautiful people.

Then it was off to my niece’s birthday party. When it comes to kids, I always thought I’d had two, a girl named Boleyn and a boy called Conor. They’d be ridiculously good looking and smart and Boleyn wouldn’t have the hair problems I have to endure. I’d also send them to one of those uber posh schools and they’d learn five languages and do a collection of extra-curricular activities. Witnessing 25 kids high on sugar, dressed up for Halloween and fighting over cupcakes was enough to put that fantasy to rest. In the end though, aided by good food and lots of champagne, we managed to have a good time. This good time was spent behind a closed door, away from the noise and watching the 5th season of The Office.

Later that night, after some serious prepping, we headed out for some boy hunting. We decided that instead of complaining that no one loves us, we would be brave and make them love us. In other words, we would actually go up to guys and make the first move. This was a lot easier after we finished a bottle of champers and put on Wonder bras. The venue in question was The Dubliner, known to all of Cape Town as an awesome place to get drunk and dance to old music. This is also now known as boy hunting ground. Most of the patrons are foreign, which is great if you’re a sucker for accents. We danced the night away and then got kicked out when the lights came on and the last round was served. They say dancing is a good workout. Judging by the pain in my legs, we must have done the marathon equivalent. It shouldn’t be this hard to climb stairs. I’m hoping a gym session later will help.

Other highlights include an amazing steak lunch, some episodes of House and a party pack from Saturday’s party. Those were reason enough to go to a child’s birthday party!

Hope everyone else had a good one.

Feeling Bleh

I have absolutely no desire to do anything except check out my Facebook and eat cupcakes. Which means my blogging material is running low.

I blame the weekend. Actually make that the kick ass weekend. It was so much fun and that has been a big problem. You see last week was hectic work-wise. So all I could do was think about the weekend. Then it arrived and went in a blur of awesomeness. I want another one.

We started off the weekend by dressing like ladies and meeting the gang at Planet Bar. When I'm a proper grown up I am so totally going to spend a month's salary on a room at the Mount Nelson. On Saturday we went for spa treatments, which was more pain than pampering but any lady knows those waxes need to be done. Then it was time for some shopping. Saturday ended with a visit from the gays and dancing at Assembly (which is where all the hot guys have been hiding, why did no one tell me this). On Sunday, we all had brekkie and the mandatory visit to the parental units (more for the free lunch and "shopping" in the pantry). The evening was dedicated to cupcakes and Sex & The City.

Now I'm back at work and only the thought of the upcoming holiday is keeping me going. Wait that's actually a lie. There is one other thing. I was walking in Gardens Centre when suddenly I stopped at the fragrance shop. There in the window was a poster for what is now my new favourite obsession.

Henry Cavill for Dunhill. O.M.F.G I may need a napkin.

(If you want to feel happy all over, you can watch the advert for the fragrance as well here. Enjoy!)

Friday, Housewarming and No Cleavage

It’s Friday and it’s payday. Could there be any other reason to be happy. Just looking at my bank balance alone makes me smile. Then I realize it’s Friday and I keep on smiling. It’s one of those days where nothing can make me sad. I’m also wearing patterned stockings and that always puts me in a better mood. Also District 9 and Coco Avant Chanel both open up this weekend. Tres exciting. This will be a good time to take advantage of those awesome movies and meals specials The Labia is having.

Looking forward to the weekend. Tomorrow is our housewarming and we’re really excited. Mainly because there will be a dozen bottles of wine in our flat. Unfortunately it is not all for us but when in Rome. I think there is no better way to enjoy your new flat than drunk. We also decided to be friendly neighbours and invite the rest of the complex. This is our way of letting them know the 80s will be on full blast and also to spot the elusive cute guy. On our moving day, we were not looking our best because we were moving furniture and didn’t know anyone in our building yet. As a result, we were sweaty, red in the face and wearing less-than-fashionista attire. Of course, that bitch of a law, Murphy, brought a total hottie to our door whilst we were moving. What did total hottie do, apart from seeing us look fugly, he offered to help. We politely declined, because we did have loads of help, but also because we don’t want to be remembered as the ugly girls who listen to boybands from downstairs. We haven’t seen him since but we’re hoping that will all change this weekend. Unless of course he’s got a girlfriend.

In other news, I have been approached by a new magazine launching next year to do a style diary. This would be great, except for the fact that said magazine is targeted at Muslim women and the diary will be all about me stepping out of my comfort zone and dressing according to Sharia Law. That’s the law that states, and I’m paraphrasing badly here, that women need to be covered up. Considering I think my cleavage is my best asset and none of my dresses go below the knee, this is going to be a challenge. I’ve already started thinking about wardrobe choices and basically I’m screwed. I am an out and out dress girl. My ass looks huge in jeans but I think pants will be the safest bet. Stay tuned to hear me griping about it later.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
