It's Friday! I'm in Love (with lots of guys)!

Friday. As there ever been a better word said to a person who is continually bored at work and wasting away her talent. By talent, I mean being Queen of the World.

Whilst I've been answering phones, booking lunches I'm not invited to and organizing board meetings the world has been mismanaged.

One nice thing about my job, the internet. At the moment we have no restrictions which means I can listen to Youtube whilst I type out letters. I can read stress-management blogs while my desk neighbour irritates the crap out of me and I can browse gossip sites. For me, this is the reason the internet was invented.

And this week, I have fallen in love. If we were counting my celeb crush total and the number of times I have fallen in "love", I would be a virtual crush slut.

These are the hot men I have been salivating over this week:

Mark Ronson is an old favourite. I'm a huge fan of geek chic and I think he personifies it well. One of his little sister is a designer. The other dates Lindsay Lohan. If there was a burning building and he could only save one of his sisters, I know which one I'd vouch for. Luckily is family hasn't come between us yet.

Ed Westwick. Ah, Chuck Bass. I don't think I need to go on. But in case you still haven't been convinced, here he is at the Glamour magazine awards in London earlier than week. Tanned, stubbly and utterly jumpable.

The last thing I'm in love with is not a guy. More than two crushes a week is even enough for me. It's this fabulous primer from Mac. It's called Prep + Prime and retails for R250.00. I haven't bought my own yet. I'm saving my money for the big move. But I have tried it out and it's amazing. It makes your skin feel silky soft and foundation just glides on. No more blotchy patches.

To end this Friday off, here's one of my all-time favorite songs. It calls for singing horribly off-key at the top of your lungs.

Enjoy!

New Moon Trailer

I know I'm a little delayed and lots of people have already seen it. But I've just downloaded the trailer for New Moon and I loved it. Even though Bella is seriously bugging me. Edward is still a total hottie. And Jacob is also looking mighty fine.

While I cool myself down, here's the trailer in case you haven't seen it.

A Few Of My Favourite Things

I'm a huge fan of musicals. Particularly The Sound of the Music. I have found that when I'm down, they make me happy. Not sure if it's the overly camp dancing, or lyrics or even the cheesy storyline. Things are enjoyed best when they are immortalised in song.

But that's not what this post is about. It's about the simple things in life. Those little, insignificant items or occurrences that make you smile without being part of the big picture.

Here is a list of my favourite little things:

Wearing my black wrap dress

There's just something fabulous about a dress that hugs all the right places and skims over the bad bits. It's versatile to wore to work and out for cocktails. And it's black which means it'll remain effortlessly chic and stylish. Plus I always dress it up with colourful shoes or a bright scarf.

Having a latte from Vida

At heart I'm a Seatte Coffee Co. girl but considering I work in an office park with not one, but two Vida e Cafes, I don't feel the need to be proud and righteous. Besides the I drink my coffee at Seattle is tres different to the way I drink it at Vida. I suppose what makes it even more fun is that on a boring work day, a single latte with one sweetner, makes all the difference. And taking the walk to the coffee shop is great exercise and a nice way to kill some time!

Hearing Blue Monday

My brothers and sisters grew up in the 80s. I was born in the late 80s. I may not have been there but I know all the songs. Which is way whenever I hear New Order's backing track, I instantly start singing "How does it feel to treat me like you do..." It's one killer song. So imagine my happiness when I turned on the radio on Monday and it was playing on 5fm. Good times.

Having an illicit packet of Salt 'n' Vinegar chips

I know S&V is not a flavour for everyone. These people (including Blue Eyes) are what I refer to as insane. The tangy the better. And do not even get me started on S&V popcorn. A movie is not complete with so much S&V flavouring until your popcorn has changed colour and you cough when you eat some. These delectable and mouth-puckering treats are best enjoyed when you're on a diet and need to take a break. Hence illicit. But as I have discovered, too much of these, won't only make your tongue numb, they'll make you wonder why you're on a diet in the first place.

Jim from The Office

I'm currently rewatching the american version and as much as my heart belongs to Tim, Jim is just so loveable. I'm not sure who I want to marry more. Considering they're both fictional characters, I don't have to make this decision just yet. Not sure if it's his pranks on Dwight, his love for Pam or just his Jim Face when he looks at the camera. But watching him makes my heart sing.

We Have Faith...The Skinny Bitches Progress Report

This weekend, I was rushing to get to my hair appointment on time when I realised that I didn't have a CD to listen to.

I grabbed one of my old compilations I made years ago. And it taught me a few things:
1) no matter how much I profess about my excellent music taste, I'm actually wrong;
2) when making compilations I should try and keep genres together (Basement Jaxx and Papa Roach, good lord); and
3)a good song, no matter what it is can remind you how awesome life is.

My song was Dream by The Everley Brothers. Before you judge me for this song or even query it's existence on my CD, see above.
I remember hearing this song in an old made-for-tv 50s movie. My mother also used to sing the first line (dream, dream, dream) to me. Not to encourage me but to discourage me from wanting things I didn't need.

As I thought about the song, and my deprived childhood, I realised, we, Skinny Bitches are getting closer to our dream. Or should I say dreams. But one at a time. Although they're little steps, we're making a glittering trail towards our first apartment, our dream jobs and boyfriends.
Firstly, it's June so we can officially start looking for a flat for August. We're getting all our donated furniture together and we're so happy. Mostly because we have all the expensive items and also because we can spend the rest of our savings on booze and fancy light fixtures. We're finally growing up.

On the job front, Blue Eyes is doing fabulously as an account executive while I'm testing the waters of magazine journalism. There's not much out there but everyone in publishing now has my contact details and I'm hoping it's just a matter of time before they start knocking.

On the boys front, no cute boys to kiss corners yet. But we're both making efforts so that when they fall head over heels in love with us, they won't be disappointed. I am going to gym four times a week. If I build the perfect body, he will come! And Blue Eyes, she got herself a new bed, so she's hoping he'll also come!

In all, we're edging our way there. It may be slow but we always have faith that it will happen.

After all you need is faith, trust and pixie dust.

Monday's Mantra

This week is all taking chances.
I believe in shopping around for great deals.
I'm addicted to lattes in pretty takeaway cups.
I wish there was currently more money in my bank account.
I'm jealous of naturally skinny people who don't have to go to the gym.
Soundtrack for the week plant a seed and a tree will grow in it's place.

Something to Make You Giggle

When I'm down or on leave or just wanna laugh so much my eyes water, I watch 30 Rock. I wish I could keep this show my little secret. It's that good. And Tina Fey is awesome.

In the second season, there's a clip of a song Tracy Jordan recorded when he had a record label. It's Werewolf Bar Mitzvah. And every time I think of it, I cannot help but giggle.

The video and lyrics are below.

Happy Wednesday Bitches!

Ex-Oh! Ex-Oh!

I was working late on my Haftarah
when I heard a knock on my bedroom-doorah
I opened it up and to my surprise
there was a werewolf standing there with glowing gold eyes
he says tomorrow my son you will be a man
but tonight's the time to join the wolfen clan
tomorrow you will stand at the bimah and pray
but tonight let's gaze at the moon and bay

Werewolf bar mitzvah
Spooky scary
Boys becoming men
Men becoming wolves

Sometimes I Just Forget...

When I work out, I need to be visually stimulated. Considering I belong to a ladies-only gym and I am not a lesbian, there is not much to keep me motivated. And that's when the angels intervened and installed TVs on the cardio machines. Last night while walking (you don't need to run on a treadmill, an instructor told me), cycling and working my ass off on the stepping machine, I was blessed with CNN, Discovery, MTV and the Ellen show. And let me tell you, garnering little insights into these worlds has made me realise a couple of things:

1. Just how hot Brandon Flowers (The Killers) is.

Not that I never thought so but I'd totally forgotten. I think it was around the time they brought out that Human song. I mean honestly, "Are we human or are we dancer?". I don't have time for that nonsense. So I went on an anti-Killers campaign for awhile. Last night hearing him say, "Don't you wanna feel my bones on your bones" launched me into a full-on obsession which resulting me googling how strong his marriage is and murdering Mr Brightside at top volume.

2. How strange it is to find people who do not like Lord of the Rings

Seriously, what is up with you people. I know together it's almost ten hours but it's an epic movie. Clue in the title! I'd understand if you were talking about the books. I managed to finish them but not without some effort. They also make good weapons as I found out when I had a fight with my brother. But that's a long story, he was being uncooperative whilst playing Desert Island, bring logic into the game. In short, people who cannot for a second, get out of reality and escape to a fantasy land have serious issues.

3. Girls who dress up for the gym bug me

I'm a firm believer in looking good. I don't have a lot to work with but I still make an effort. Except of course at the gym. And why should I. I work out with women. I wear stretchy pants and I go all red when I sweat. already the odds are against me. So last night as I was huffing and puffing away on the rowing machine, a princess came down to row beside me. She had on a cute pink outfit, with matching headband and sneakers. Top marks for outfit. Very Olivia Newton John, Let's Get Physical. That wasn't the reason I was judging her. The reason was right before she started to exercise she put on some lip gloss. Not of the Labello variety. More along the Juicy Tubes variety. She wasted tres expensive lip gloss that eventually she was going to sweat away. I cannot even afford Juicy Tubes and she uses it so casually. Bugging.

4. The Supreme Court in California sucks

I was on the treadmill when the verdict came in on Proposition 8. And I have to say, what the hell? Are we still seriously arguing this issue. Why does marriage have to be defined in certain terms. Shouldn't we be celebrating that two people managed to find love. Although I am single, I do dream about getting married one day. A big OTT affair where all my bridesmaids will be jealous. I cannot even imagine how sad it would be if someone took away those dreams. I think what makes it more frustrating is the fact that this is America we're talking about. This is meant to be the superpower most countries look up to and yet people have to fight for basic rights. Even South Africa, with it's history have allowed gay marriage and we've only been a democracy since 1994. Come on people, get over yourselves.

I'm off to gym again tonight, I wonder what thoughts that's going to bring!
