My Canadian Bucket List: See Snow

So it was your average Friday night, I was about to leave a friend's place when I heard someone mutter "Oh it's snowing." like it wasn't anything important. I tried to remain calm. But secretly I was aching to leave to see if it was true. And it was!

Coming from South Africa, I have never seen snow. We have it but we have never crossed paths. Although for as long as I remember I have dreamed of it happening. I feel the same way about Michael Fassbender.

Once outside I have never been happier. Well at that moment, I couldn't remember a time when I was happier. I think this picture says it all.

From the movies I was expecting soft blankety snow that fell around my face and sounded like angels singing. What I got was frozen raindrops that melt as soon as they touch you. But I didn't give a shit, snow really is magical. And I loved it. When though I arrived home wet and cold with my hair frizzing, it was worth it.

The next day was even better. My very first, winter wonderland.

Note: I would have taken more pictures if it wasn't so freaking cold. All this beauty comes at a price.

Things I've Realised

I listen to Lady Gaga too much. Yesterday my mom called me and when I couldn’t talk I said “Sorry I cannot hear you I’m kinda busy, k-k-k-kinda busy.” May need to switch back to my 80s collection for a while.

I love dressing up in winter. Yes, it’s freezing and it’s a mission to even get out of the warm bed but afterwards it’s all worth it. Layering is a big thing in our flat. Also we love accessorizing with scarves, gloves and hats. So I think deep down I’m a winter baby. Also I get to wear my beloved boots. Major drawback about summer, you cannot wear boots. Well you can, but you might get called a hussy.

That negative people need to move away from me. I’m not talking about sad people or people who have real problems. I’m talking about the moany cows that always look on the bad side of life. Instead of trying to cheer them up, I’m walking away. I’m not a biatch I have just realized that these people will always find a way to be grumpy gills so instead I’m avoiding them. They will not bring down my ray of light.

I’m stuck in a coffee rut. I love my Vida but I’m thinking I need to branch out a little. So this weekend the gays and I are heading out to find a new haunt. If you have any suggestions (particularly one that serves food) in the City please let me know.

Mid-Week Highlights

I finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It started off very slowly and then all of a sudden I was staying up late to finish it. It was totally gripping but also had a dark plot twist that I never saw coming. Wonder how Stieg Larsson thought of that. If you haven’t read it, I don’t want to ruin it. But I would recommend it, if you’re not too sensitive. It’s not graphic but it’s a bit hectic.

I’ve started planning my winter wardrobe. I’m thinking ladylike chic with an edge. I’m planning greys, blues and purples and lots of accessories like gloves, scarves, hats, and ear muffs. Also plan on getting some awesome head pieces from Mungo and Jemima.

After months of ignoring my account, I finally (re)joined Twitter. It was a bit daunting at first ‘cause I didn’t get what RT meant or how to follow people. So after a tutorial by my lovely co-worker I am now tweeting in heels. Seriously that’s my name! You can go here to follow me. Must still get a new profile and shizz but right now am just enjoying tweeting.

I’m getting super excited for the World Cup. It’s 99 days away. I’ll be going to two games so far both with lots of talent on the pitch. But the most important thing is that Blue Eyes and I will be planning our own personal welcoming committee. Mostly for all the hot foreign boys ;)

Tonight we’re going to watch Valentine’s Day. I’ve heard it’s a shameful American rip-off of Love Actually. I’ve also heard it’s really funny. All I’m saying is, McSteamy, Bradley Cooper and Jakob from Twilight in the same movie…yes please!

Hope your week is awesome!

The Looks For Winter

There is nothing I love more than dressing up. Whether I'm going to work or out to dinner or even to the movies, I need to wear an outfit. I've found putting a little effort into your clothes and accessories works wonders. I feel confident, I look put-together and people notice.

Although I'm not really a winter person I do love dressing up in winter. There are just so many more options and combinations to try out. And I get to wear my beloved boots! Nothing makes me happier.

So this winter is sorta upon us. The last couple of days of sunshine have thrown a spanner in the works but it's still nipples cold at night.

Here are the looks I'd love to work for winter:

Ankle Boots

Although I'm short and curvy and could never pull this off, I still dream about them. I love the brightly coloured boots especially. Nothing says faboosh more than hot pink booties.

Ear Muffs

I travel over 20km to work and then I walk a bit of a distance from my car to the office. My poor little ears suffer as a result. So this season I have already invested in fluffy black earmuffs from Accessorize. They're chic and keep me warm. Bonus.

Purple Coat

I'm one of those girls dying to find the perfect coat. In the perfect colour. I want something that makes a statement and that attracts. I think purple, the colour previously only reserved for royalty, will be the colour of my winter coat. Now if only I can find one that doesn't make me look like Willy Wonka.

Stockings

Probably one of the reasons I love wearing boots so much is cos I can wear stockings with them. I do have a couple of pairs of black opagues in my closet but my favourite ones are fishnets. But the small hole fishnets. I tried the larger hole variety and ended up looking a little whorish. Clearly not for me. Fishnets are so stylish and add some sex to the work day!

Jersey Dress

Flattering, comfy and chic. Everything you need from a dress. I've already got what I think will be the dress this winter. My is a blue knee-length number from Marion and Linde. I plan on working this number with a brown waist belt and brown boots. Maybe a necklace or a brooch. I want it keep it minimalist and make the focus on the dress.

This year's winter is going to be fabulous.

Wish List # 5 The Perfect Winter Coat

It's fast becoming winter in Cape Town and skinny bitches are all struggling to find the perfect cover-up. Whether it's to dress up skinny jeans or make a LBD and ankle boots rock, the perfect winter coat is something many women yearn for but never find.

There are so many factors that contribute to the overall purchase decision. How long is it? How warm is it? What's the collar like? Do I want a bright one or a black one? Can I wear it on its own with a pair of killer heels? Will it make me look big?

Sometimes it is so hard to be a women.

While, us, skinny bitches cannot determine what your ideal winter coat is. We can give you some eye candy to peruse over.

Enjoy!
