This Week I...

...went to see South Africa play USA.

Last week Wednesday The Nelson Mandela Challenge was held at Cape Town Stadium. Bafana Bafana, in their first Cape Town game in several years, took on USA.

Along with Blue Eyes, my gays and the family we headed to the stadium via the Fan Walk. The city centre was filled with yellow as over 50 000 fans made their way to the stadium. It reminded me a lot of the world cup and was great to see so many supporters. It was also awesome to be able to sing the national anthem with a gazillion other supporters. Plus there were lots of cute boys :)

The evening started with an address by President Jacob Zuma and then the game started. I thought South Africa played a lot better than the USA but had trouble finishing. At the end, the Americans won 1-0.

Keep Flying the Flag

Even though the World Cup is over, there is no need to get all sad and depressed. Instead advertising company DraftFCB have come up with this great intiative to keep on flying the flag for an extra thirty days. Starting today!

If you can, head on over here to see the fab video. Otherwise just keep on flying your flag!

Cape Town Fan Walk

Skinny Bitches did the fan walk last night for the Holland and Uruguay semi-final.

The place was packed. It seems everyone and their orange-clad family were in the city yesterday. We didn't walk all the way to the stadium, the crowds were a little too hectic for that. But I did find this awesome picture of the stadium walk on Twitter.

We're gonna be really sad when the World Cup's over but we've had some awesome times.

Things I've Realised...World Cup Edition

Picture from here

World Cups make you tired. I have been out every night for the past two weeks. And I'm not counting a trip to the shops or the takeaway place around the corner as out. I've been out dining, partying and watching games. Almost always creeping in at an ungodly hour and praying my liver is not divorcing me. At the moment, I've taken a couple of days off from the party circuit and my liver is starting to talk to me again. But I'm afraid if we have one more slip-up we're headed for court.

South American men are hawt. It's not just the women who are all exotic and pretty, it's the men too. Not sure what they're drinking over there but it's working. Instead of going for traditional nationalities like Brazil or Argentina, ladies we suggest you look at Chile. Hotties galore and really nice. Also approach Brazilians with care, they are extremely forward. If that's what you're into, go find one now and have a good time.

I'm totally broke. Like January broke. But if possible even worse. All that partying takes its toll on my bank balance. Not to mention I've had to buy lots of memorabilia. All those soccer shirts, flag mirrors and flag leg warmers don't come cheap. Tomorrow is pay day and if you're looking for me, I'll be sleeping outside the ATM.

My hormones are going crazy. Apart from my wallet, these have been the worst hit by the World Cup. Everywhere I look there are hot men. I'm not just talking about the soccer hotties, it's the fans and supporters that are making me blush and wear revealing clothing. In winter. The nice thing is many of them are friendly and are here to have a good time. Some of them aren't as friendly and we have been subjected to varying degrees of dodginess including someone asking if we'd like to know a little German and then pointing at his penis; and someone offering free hugs but then trying to slip in the tongue.

Picture from here.

Yoann Gourcoff almost had me licking the TV. This French hottie was given a straight red in the game against South Africa and on replays some commentators were struggling to see why. Looking at him, I clearly know the reason. His beauty was clearly too distracting for anyone else on the field. After he left, we did go on to win the game. Although France didn't deserve to go through to the next round, Yoann is more than welcome to hang around Skinny Bitches crib.

Football Fever

Two days before the World Cup kicks off, South Africa decided to celebrate with a Vuvuzela Moment.

At 12h00 today, people stopped what they were doing and blew their horns, car hooters or just made noise for five minutes.

It was an incredible moment and got everyone even more excited for the World Cup.

Here are some pictures of the moment around South Africa.

Monday's Mantra

This week
is the start of the World Cup bitches!
I believe in the power of Cape Town.
I’m addicted to white wine, coloured tights and Lady Gaga’s Boys Boys Boys.
I wish it was just a little bit warmer.
I’m jealous that I couldn’t get more WC tickets.
Soundtrack/Mantra for the week It’s Raining (hot foreign football-crazy) Men

The picture above is the giant vuvuzela erected in the centre of Cape Town. It's supposed to be going off every time a goal is scored at Cape Town Stadium. Vuvuzela's can be loud and annoying but the only way to beat it is to join in. So make sure you have yours for the World Cup!

Cape Town Ferris Wheel

Cape Town has got it's own London Eye, although our one is called The Wheel of Excellence.

It was erected in what seems like hours. But actually it was only five days and looks fabulous!

It's located near the opening of the V&A Waterfront shopping centre and offers a 20 minute ride with the option of a VIP carriage. It only costs R70 per person and definitely something I'll be doing soon.

Ready for the World Cup

I've got my mirror caps, my supporter's tee and now I'll be rocking this number from Adidas.

Isn't it fabulous? It's fitted, snug and allows me to support my country in style.

Thanks to one of my lovely brothers I was able to get it. It's a little bit more than I would spend on a sports jacket but I suppose that's what big brothers are for.

Are you guys getting excited for the World Cup?

If not, here is one surefire way to get excited. Even if it's only a little bit. If you haven't seen Nike's Write the Future ad, you're missing out. It's for lack of a better phrase, the shizz.

Enjoy!

Monday's Mantra

I wish I had an internal cooling system that wasn't sweat.
I'm jealous I'm not poolside.

Mid-Week Highlights

I finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It started off very slowly and then all of a sudden I was staying up late to finish it. It was totally gripping but also had a dark plot twist that I never saw coming. Wonder how Stieg Larsson thought of that. If you haven’t read it, I don’t want to ruin it. But I would recommend it, if you’re not too sensitive. It’s not graphic but it’s a bit hectic.

I’ve started planning my winter wardrobe. I’m thinking ladylike chic with an edge. I’m planning greys, blues and purples and lots of accessories like gloves, scarves, hats, and ear muffs. Also plan on getting some awesome head pieces from Mungo and Jemima.

After months of ignoring my account, I finally (re)joined Twitter. It was a bit daunting at first ‘cause I didn’t get what RT meant or how to follow people. So after a tutorial by my lovely co-worker I am now tweeting in heels. Seriously that’s my name! You can go here to follow me. Must still get a new profile and shizz but right now am just enjoying tweeting.

I’m getting super excited for the World Cup. It’s 99 days away. I’ll be going to two games so far both with lots of talent on the pitch. But the most important thing is that Blue Eyes and I will be planning our own personal welcoming committee. Mostly for all the hot foreign boys ;)

Tonight we’re going to watch Valentine’s Day. I’ve heard it’s a shameful American rip-off of Love Actually. I’ve also heard it’s really funny. All I’m saying is, McSteamy, Bradley Cooper and Jakob from Twilight in the same movie…yes please!

Hope your week is awesome!
