Current Loves, Wants and Needs

*This navy drape dress from local online shopping site Diligo which I’m dying to order but they don’t have my size.

*My new grey boots from Bronx Ladies. Loving grey this winter and surprisingly ankle boots turned out to be friend.

*Tina Fey’s new book which I have ordered and waiting for delivery. I have a major girl crush on Ms Fey so cannot wait to read it!

*Being able to drink lattes again. After that awful diet and only black coffee, nothing seemed more wonderful than having a coffee with milk. I realize my latte intake may be a bit too much so am limiting it. But there is nothing more fabulous.

*I’m in the market for a new bed. And as I claim to be all grown up and sophisticated, it’s only right that my bed be the same. I’m currently lusting after a baroque-style headboard but have yet to find one. If you can help, I can pay you back in hugs!

Things That Make Me Happy

*Being able to fit into my skinny jeans again.
If you’ve been following my Twitter stream, you’ll know that the Skinny Bitches undertook some drastic measures to lose some weight. Before you get all worried, it wasn’t anything like surgery or an eating disorder. Mostly because you know we have no money for liposuction. We decided we needed a little kick to get us motivated to really start eating healthy. So we decided to do the Royal Danish Hospital diet. If you’ve heard of it, you’ll know it’s pure protein and can make you lose up to 10 kgs. If you don’t know about it, it’ll basically put you off eggs, steak and carrots but at the end of the day you can wear your skinny jeans again. Which is exactly what happened to me. After 13 days of avoiding carbs, resisting all cravings and repeating “skinny bitch in the making” I finally weighed myself and found I was 5 kgs lighter which translates into fitting into my skinny jeans again! Hurrah!

*Cooking Again
After two weeks of bland steak and eggs, I couldn’t wait to start cooking again. And because of Mother’s Day yesterday I had the perfect excuse. I had to make a little something special for my momma (and myself of course) for all the stuff she does for me. So I opted for some butter chicken. I’ve made it before and loved it but this time I decided to go a little bit more extravagant and make a new version. There was also some garlic bread in lieu of naan bread. After dieting nothing tastes as good as home-cooked meal.

*Planning a Holiday
Nothing’s booked yet but there’s been lots of saving and getting bikini ready. Skinny Bitches will be hitting Thailand at the end of the year with some besties. Whoop Whoop!

Poetry's Enchanted Garden

Last week I was invited to a very special event at the Poetry store at the V&A Waterfront. For those who don’t live here, Poetry stores are where the woman I want to be when I grow up shop. So essentially when I have all the means to be sophisticated, wealthy and fabulous, not to mention skinny, this is where you’ll find me.

Inspired by other retail stores around the world, Poetry decided to celebrate Mother’s Day a little different this year. Instead of the usual banners and reminders to get our mom’s the usual gifts of slippers and bath stuff, Poetry went a little more creative by hosting a live window-painting session.

Cape Town artist Megan Hart was selected to transform the store’s window’s into a little enchanted garden, with the V&A store getting that extra bit of va-va-voom from some Cape Town fashion peeps and bloggers. I was lucky enough to be one of the fabulous few to add my name to the stores windows.

After we’d had our fill of sushi and champers, we were even presented with a little gift from Poetry for our moms. Although if I’m honest it has and probably will remain in my care :)

If you’re in the vicinity, make sure you pop to the store and see the painting, it’s tres amazing.

Here are some other bloggers who also got to make their mark:

Dear Future Boyfriend, Part Three

Dear Future Boyfriend Part 3

I realize in my previous posts I have been a bit demanding and finicky. I realize I should just be grateful that my soul-mate has come into my life and all that nonsense. But I think divulging all this shit beforehand will really make our relationship withstand the distance and prevent fights about when we’re ready to have children and why you should never, ever leave the cheese container empty. But as this is a relationship and not just you adoring me for the rest of our lives, I have decided to board the ship (see what I did there?). I’m going to meet you in the middle and fill you in on the things I will and can do for you. After all if you’re willing to listen and abide to my craziness over here and here then it’s really the least I can do.

*Firstly I want to let you know I won’t moan about how much sports you watch. Granted it’s not the only thing you do. As long as there is a time where your ass isn’t on the couch with your remote in hand and you experience fresh air, I’ll be all good. I understand that watching sports with a beer in hand all day is akin to me watching Hell’s Kitchen all day in my underwear and the contents of my fridge spread out before me. We all have to unwind somehow. I won’t mind if you want me to even watch with you. I understand the offside rule, I can remember the season when Man United won the Treble and I even know that there’s a Cricket World Cup on. Also I love men who aren’t afraid to wear short shorts and I particularly love when hot men get all riled up about stuff that they swear and shout. Passion is sexy. There may be a few times when I nod off during a rugby game or surreptitiously check my blackberry during a non-league match but for the most I’ll be cheering with you.

*I’ve learnt to cook. Really, I have skills now. Before, my definition of cooking included adding bits of bacon to instant noodles and reheating frozen pies. Now I’m frigging Nigella Lawson and I have the curves to prove it. I can make you an array of dishes from risotto to home-made ravioli. I do this great herbed sweet potato mash and can make tender soy and honey chicken that’ll make you want to cry. I can even make my own pizza bases with my own home-made tomato sauce. And when we’re done with that...I’ll make dessert. Whether it’s cupcakes or cinnamon rolls or even those baby chocolate cakes that are all gooey inside for you Future Boyfriend I’ll do it all.

*I take care of the way I look. Mostly. I’m still trying to lose all my puppy fat and that weight from Christmas but I’ve started to work out again so at least we’re getting somewhere. But in all other areas I make an effort. I use Redken products for my hair which I know might sound like a foreign language or concept since a lot of boys I know seem to prefer the dreaded 2-in-1 variety of hair care. But it’s really good and costly. I always paint my nails and put on my face. Mostly out of common decency…me first thing in the morning can be quite scary so I’m doing my bit for humanity. I’ve thrown out any clothing items which may have been fad trends and I always avoid fashion that doubles as man-repellents. Most important, I’ve thrown out any graying, shapeless pair of underwear and replaced it with the sexy kind like in Secret Diary of a Call Girl and I only have one pair of fat pants.

I Don't Care What My Teachers Say...

...I'm gonna be a supermodel.

A little while ago I mentioned that I took part in a photoshoot for O Magazine in December. And now, months later the issue is finally out.

Thanks to my years of idolizing (read stalking) Style Guide Cape Town, I think she finally got sick of me peering at her from windows, "bumping" into her at fashion events and finding out her direct line that she thought this would shut me up. Just kidding, those things didn't happen or at least in that order ;)

I was lucky enough to be chosen along with Dimi from Style Scoop and Miss Milli B to represent blogger and city style. I got to wear a fabulous 50s-inspired outfit from David West and some extra high heels, which is always a plus.

Here is the result:

Singleton Awareness Day

A little while back, Skinny Bitches were invited to attend the Singleton Awareness Day at the Pepper Club.

Now I’ll admit I do not always wait patiently for love to arrive, there have been many times when I’ve cried into my frozen yoghurt whilst a Katherine Heigel chick flick played screaming “Why doesn’t anyone love me”. But these times are few and far between and mostly I spend my time enjoying the single life.

So when the absolutely fabulous Cosmic Girl decided to dedicate a date to honouring singles after all that hoohah of Valentine’s Day, we couldn’t resist.

The evening started with some delish appletinis made with Singleton whiskey and snacks.

Then we were lucky enough to have our make-up done by the lovely ladies of Benefit. After topping up on another drink and popcorn, we were all ushered into the cinema to watch the ultimate chick flick Bridget Jones Diary.

Halfway through the movie, we were spoiled with even more wine and snacks. But the best part had to be the charity auction, you know for the kids ;) Two outrageously good-looking bachelors offering a luxury meal and ride in a Rolls Royce were auctioned off with one Skinny Bitch doing her bit for the kids and winning that amazing prize.

Thanks so much to the Pepper Club for hosting us and for a fabulous evening.

When I Grow Up...

...I'll be dressing like this.

Loving the looks from Victoria Beckham's ready-to-wear collection. The draping, the silhouettes, the colours.

Not such a fan of the clumpy boots though. When you're looking all work-like chic you don't need those things. Would much rather substitute for a pair of mary janes or ankle boots.

Also the head gear...will we be swimming later.

Totally Inappropiate But...

...really funny.

I was sent this by one of my gays and have not stopped laughing. Really bad toilet humour I know but I cannot help it ;)
