Dear Future Boyfriend Part Fifteen

Oh FB, I'm not gonna lie. I have become a grumpy single. Trust me this is not how I wanted things to turn out. I used to be the happy single. I was like the fun friend who didn't mind hanging around couples. I loved hearing about engagement stories and wedding planning. I was a joy to be around. And I hardly ever bemoaned my marital status. Because I always had faith that you were out there.

Then something changed. I'm guessing everyone who is single for an extended period of time goes through this phase. You're all happy-go-lucky and then suddenly there's an onslaught of Facebook couples, the ex you were always sure was a backup plan suddenly moves in with someone and you start wondering when did everyone move on with their lives and you're the last one on the single bus.* Then you realise it was probably when you were staying home for the third consecutive weekend on a Netflix and pizza binge.**

So instead of just getting on with life and waiting for things to happen as they should. I decided to conduct some research. By research I mean go on a lot more dates. I thought I'd help fate along. Instead of getting more exciting about the prospects out there, it made me a little sad. And a grumpy gills. The thing is, despite being a bit of a realistic I still hold out hope for that everlasting love, that constant butterflies in my stomach feeling. That ooh la la. I did not find it yet.

To be fair, many of these guys were great. Some were dicks. But the truth was, I was going into every new date with very unrealistic expectations of love. I'm not talking disney expectations which are next level. I'm talking about other pieces of media that made me believe.

And so I'd like to present to you, some movies, tv shows and comics that have given me unbridled hope and made me the way I am today. I apologise in advance for my attitude and for the reaction gifs.***

Sex & the City

This is a great show. It is very real. In most parts. We'll ignore how Carrie manages to live so lavishly on a writer's salary or the designer clothes. The situations and men they come across are very real. I have experienced some very similar situations that makes me paranoid. But what really got me was this statement from Big:

This is a great sentiment. But it's all lies. Like seriously. Lies. I have heard many women say this when looking for a partner. I have heard zero men say this is the number one quality they look for. Which kills me because I have jokes for days. Because of this line, I always assumed this would beat out a thigh gap. I can tell you from very personal experience, the thigh gap always wins.

X-men

I love X-men. I love Gambit. Like you known when most girls were getting turned on by Aladdin and other Disney princes, I had that same reaction to Gambit. And one of the things I really loved about him was his relationship with Rogue. Here was a girl who couldn't touch another person and he still loved her and (and this is the important one) he stuck around. Sure they had their ups and downs and obviously this would change depending on which canon/generation/series you were following but the one I am a fan of, they stay together.

I know there are many guys who are willing to wait and are okay with not doing adult stuff. These guys rule! 100 points for these guys. I also know there are just as many guys, probably more who will not stick around. And I know there are girls who won't either. After years of watching X-men and shipping this pairing my outlook has been ingrained with a guy like Gambit. He's cocky, a bit of a douche but he has this one redeeming quality that I love. Which is probably why when searching for a guy who values other things above physical stuff I actively ignore all the other crazy signs. I feel this one's on me and I am working on my issues.

What's Your Number

This is one of those movies not everyone was a fan of. I thought it was hilarious. The gist is Anna Faris does not want to sleep with any more guys so she goes looking for her future husband through her list of exes. Chris Evans is her neighbour who is half naked a lot of time and helps her. Naturally they end up together. And he has no issues with her number.

My problems with believing a movie like this...no one's neighbour is a hot guy who answers the door starkers. I have lived on my own for several years. My neighbours have always been older women. Not even a nipple slip. Also I have never heard of a guy who embraces a girl's number. I've met several guys who will embrace it for a night but who marry those girls, pffftt.

The Office (US)

Pam and Jim. I actually can't with this one. We get it. You guys are cute and meant to be. You work together, have the best wedding and continue to love each other. Enough!

Not only does this provide someone with unrealistic expectations of how much fun you can have at work all the time, it says that your perfect soulmate could be right under your nose. Have you ever taken a long hard look at the people you work with and realise one of them is who you will end up marrying. No thanks! This show is irresponsible.

I'm out!

*Obviously I know this is not true.
** Again not true.
*** I promise I will not be bitter and moody all the time. I just need to get this out of my system.

The Problem With TV According To Moi

TV shows used to be my escape from the world. While, when I’ve run out of cupcakes. So it saddens me that when I try to revisit a beloved TV show (i.e. spend a weekend re-watching it because I am broke and payday is a week away) I manage to find so many things wrong. So I have decided to compile a list of things my favourite TV shows have done wrong. And yes, it’s been a long-ass month of me having too little money and lots of time…

…The Gossip Girl Writers Think we’re stupid.

Nate probably thinking 1 +1 =?

There is this moment in season 5 of GG where Serena’s dad says her brother Eric cannot come home for an event because he’s stuck in Zaire. And then Serena corrects him  by saying “I think it’s called the Democratic Republic of Congo now”. Like she knew that. Her dress is literally cut down to her navel but we’re expected to buy that she knows where it is and that there’s a country called the DRC. Bitch please. The other thing that really makes me mad because I take the journalism world so seriously is that Nate is running a publishing company. Nate…I realise he comes from a world of privilege and connections but this isn’t an assistant position. He is the editor in chief. And he has yet to finish college. Or *not* fuck any female character with the exception of his mother on the show. Nice one.

…Carrie Planned Her Trip All Wrong.

This could have been avoided.

I have watched the final season of Sex and the City way too many times. And after all the shit Big has put Carrie through, she deserves a fabulous older ex-ballet dancer who can provide a happy life filled with new adventures, aka The Russian. So when they meet, he is a famous artist who hasn’t done a show for years and has infinite time to spend with her. He gets a new show in Paris and invites her to move with him. All of a sudden he is working all the time and not there for her every moment. So girlfriend who is understandably a little homesick gets all weird in his grill and then they break up and Big arrives, blah blah blah. Now if I were Carrie, I’d realise, hey my boyfriend is about to embark on an artistic comeback, maybe he needs a bit of space. I’ll move countries when he’s closer to the opening and then when it’s done we can carry on living our amazing lives together. See, problem fixed.

…Debra Messing Cannot Dress For Shit On Smash

Intervention starts now.

Her character is a successful playwright with musicals on Broadway. She is trying to adopt a little Chinese baby. She also has a double-storey house. In Manhattan. She can afford to stop wearing ill-fitting cardigan shrug thingys and palazzo pants. Also, enough with the scarves.

…The Other Carrie Is Clearly Not Allergic to Sulphur

Glug, glug, glug

So I have a slight allergy to sulphur. Which means I cannot drink more than two glasses of wine before I turn into a sneezy, red-faced wreck. I once drank an entire bottle of sparkling wine in half an hour because of boy problems and the result was not pretty. So I take my wine slowly. Carrie on Homeland does not. Firstly it’s pronounced Kerri which is weird in itself. Secondly, she drinks the stuff like it’s water. Taking big ol’ gulps like she’s been in the dessert and shit. I have never ever seen anyone do that to wine before. It’s just not right or fun. And I once lost a drinking game in Thailand and had to drink a bucket of other people’s beer.

Anything bugging you?

This Year...

...I'm trying to be positive and not complain as much. So as much as I'd like to go on about my horrible skin, hair that doesn't seem to do much despite spending all my money on Redken and constantly having moolah troubles I've decided to rather do things that bring a smile to my face.

So last night I popped in some old Sex and the City, got some frozen yoghurt from Myƶg and went to a happy place. Sometimes it can make a world of difference.

Oh Make Me Over

If you’re like me, you’ve no doubt spent hours at Exclusive Books bemoaning the cost of imported fashion magazines and surreptitiously trying to read a copy while avoiding the beady eye of the sales clerk. There’s something uber fabulous about fashion magazines. The page after page of accessory content, the million ways to wear a little black dress, the glamourous yet totally impractical photo shoots with couture. It’s like happiness between pages. What we lack on our little corner of the world is good fashion magazines. Don’t get me wrong, we have fabulous magazines. But if I’m honest I’d prefer a little more Shoes For Every Occasion than Ten Ways To Please A Man. Especially since I have the Sex &The City box set. I got that area covered.

So when I found out department store Edgars Club magazine had a little makeover, I was intrigued and giddy. And jumped up and down like it was Christmas. Who better to produce a fashion mag than a store chock-a-block of fashion items.

The new magazine is colourful, glossy and filled with fashion content like news from the runway, trends, what’s in store, advice and insight from local designers. And to kick it off, they’ve shot this to-die-for Thula Sindi dress for their new front cover. Haute! Haute! Haute! At the helm of the magazine is one of the foremost fashion bloggers in SA and also the group editor, Justine Stafford, who with a team of superstars revamped the magazine from something my mother reads to something I’ll now be stealing from my mother’s house.

Go and check it out. Here's a sneak peak at their November issue.

All By Myself*

*Excuse the moany, feeling-sorry-myself title. This is not a woe-is-me blog post. It’s a bit moany but nothing so sad it’ll make the reader even want to do a razor-blade action.

In one of my favourite Sex and the City episodes Carrie and Aidan have just moved in together and it takes a little adjusting. Carrie then laments to the girls about how she misses so many things she couldn’t do before she had a dude hanging around her place. This in turn leads the other girls to reveal some of their private activities they love to do. Sometimes it just seems like there are some things that feel better when done alone like…

…going to the movies by yourself. Yes it’s awesome with a date but there’s something absolutely fabulous when it’s just you. Maybe it’s because you don’t have to pretend to like arty, clever movies and can see what you really want (One ticket for Fast and Furious Five please!) Maybe it’s because you can overload your popcorn with salt ‘n’ vinegar flavouring and no one makes passive aggressive comments. Whatever the reasoning, it is something to be relished.

…making a big pot of pasta and then sitting down to watch Julie and Julia. The story behind this is, one day one of my gays gave me a copy of J&J. He also instructed me not to watch it without a vast supply of food at the ready. Knowing the paltry ingredients in my fridge weren’t going to cut it, I bought some fancy stuff to make one of those creamy tomato-based pastas with lots of bacon and feta. The results were magical.

…playing cheesy music and cleaning the house. I’d love to be able to have someone clean my flat but for some reason I get a little joy from cleaning it myself. Maybe it’s because I use the opportunity to parade in short shorts and yellow gloves – once a fashionista, always a fashionista – but more likely it’s the fact that I was forced to help my mother clean our house and I haven’t gotten out of the routine yet. Saying that I’m not really a neat and tidy person and there are days when my sink is flooded with dishes. But once I get that feeling, helped on by playing the best and worst of the 80s, I’m in my zone. And all of a sudden I cannot stop until there’s no mildew on the bathroom tiles or until all the wax has been cleared from the mantelpiece. I'd like to admit I'm a cleaning machine but after years of living with her, that title will always belong to my mother.

Your fave all-by-myself pastimes?

Dear Future Boyfriend, Part Two

You know more guidelines and advice for that lucky (?) guy.

*I heart Bradley Cooper. So if you are not him, you’ll have to deal with me talking about him. You see, I’ve been undertaking some charity work in order to provide me with good karma for the rest of my life. Well sort of. I really want to do charity work but I’m like crazy busy and there never seems enough time. But I intend to do something because by some twist of fate (karma that’s you) I’d really like it for you FB to either be Bradley Cooper or at least resemble him. See I have had this thing about him for ages. Ever since he first appeared in Sex & The City, then Kitchen Confidential then even as the douche in Wedding Crashers. For some reason I cannot look away and the obsession’s starting to get bad. I’ve started to think of the many ways we’d meet and fall in love and how I’d handle the press intrusion into our lives and what to do if our sex tape ever got leaked (which wouldn’t be the dirty kind by the way, more a video of me eating cheese and filming Bradley while he sleeps). So shit is bound to get weird and I’d just like to prepare you for it.

*In that great tradition of double-standards, my shit can be weird but I’d prefer if there are things you didn’t do. If you tend to eat chocolate cereal and just love when the milk turns all brown and tastes delish, please use your spoon to drink it and not go directly for the bowl. If you say shit like “catch you on the flip side” or pronounce croissant with a French accent even though you’re not French, it’s over. If you listen to Nickelback, haven’t watched 30 Rock or wear a peak cap backwards, it’s okay. Not everyone is perfect. But if you do all three, see ya!

*You have to like my gays. Unfortunately and fortunately I seem to attract the homosexuals. I think it’s my extreme penchant for ABBA, musicals and cocktails with dirty names. Instead of a moth I’m a disco ball and instead of a flame, they’re flaming queens. I don’t usually complain about my gays but it is discerning to note that most of my BBM contacts have Lady Gaga as their profile pictures. But they’re an important part of my life and I’ll need you to accept them. You don’t need to love them because then I’ll worry that I’ve turned another one but you do need to like them. Or at least pretend you do.

Reason #532 I Love My Gays

This weekend I made the rookie mistake of mixing my drinks. The result as well as myself was not pretty. I spent so much time hugging the toilet I was convinced Blue Eyes was gonna tell us to get a room.

Luckily for me, I have Gays.

My gays very nicely came to visit me, bring a me a latte from Vida and listen to me moan whilst giving me lots of hugs. They also watched Sex & The City with me and then we spoke about boys.

The best hangover cure ever.

An Open Letter...

I usually write these to people (famous and real) who either bug me like you wouldn't believe or those who make my heart all happy. This time, however, I feel I need to write one to myself.

I, like most other people, have a voice of reason inside my head. I, like most other people, chose to ignore it. This time I am listening...

The cheating on the diet needs to stop. You cannot go to gym and then reward yourself with a cheeseburger. We both know you didn't work out that long. Rather save the cheating for when you have just been paid and suddenly have so much money you want to waste it all on sweets. Or do it when someone at work is mean to you or you got cut off in traffic. Cos after those incidents who is going to begrudge you a chocolate or a packet of salt and vinegar crisps. If you work hard, it won't even be cheating, it'll be a reward.

The money thing. Yes, you're good that you always pay off your credit card, your rent and you put money aside for petrol. But all that left over money should be going into a savings account or investment pieces like a new bed or a deposit for a new car. You do not need to get lattes every morning. Yes, they are delicious. Yes, the Vida guys call you princess. It's not worth it. Getting lattes everyday just means you'll be spending more time at home with an empty fridge and no money to go out, watching SATC on repeat.

You can not pull off mini-skirts. You can rock dresses and low-cut things. Your boobs are great, they are the things that should be exposed. But those thighs are better left under a wrap dress or covered by bright stockings.

Christopher Bailey is gay. He will never love you. Stop. The. Obsession.

Award Season

My new obsession, apart from trying to find the perfect pair of gladiator sandals, is makeup. I have always worn makeup. Then I met two very special beauty therapists at my previous job and found out exactly how much one can do with makeup. Considering my new obsession, I am now besotted with makeup blogs. I’m loving the reviews, the trials and the opinions of bloggers. And frankly anyone who can use liquid eyeliner without smudging deserves a gold star in my book. I am still struggling. So thanks to all of you who have enlightened me with your makeup blogs. Keep on rocking!

So it is with great delight that I found out Skinny Bitches was nominated for an award. We love awards! And by a fabulous beauty blogger no less. (Go check out Eliza…her blog is faboosh).

Now here is what I have to do. Thank the person (Eliza, you rock) and then name 7 things that people might find interesting. I am also supposed to tag other blogs but I am very indecisive and cannot decide who gets what. So this once, if you feel you deserve the award, Gorgeous Blogger by the way, you can claim it!

*My ideal dinner party guests would include Madonna, Perez Hilton, Henry Cavill (just to look at, he doesn’t need to talk) and Carrie Bradshaw.

*I can fold my tongue in a weird shape. I used to think it was cool until someone told me it freaks them out. I feel like I have a superpower.

*My favourite X-men is Gambit.

*Whenever I wear new or pretty underwear I have an urge to show and tell people. I have been warned this is not appropriate behaviour particularly when at work or with a guy who is not gay. This makes me want to do it even more.

*I have sent through a postcard to Postsecret. It has yet to show up there. But I have identified with many of the secrets on there.

*I find numerous ways to say the phrase “crack-a-lacking” in conversations. I have even commandeered discussions so I can use it. I need help I know.

*I am thinking of deleting friends from Facebook if they keep on sending Farmville requests. If you're trying to avoid word, can't you be like me and blog rather ;)

10 Random Things About Me

Skinny Bitches were tagged by the lovely Being Brazen to do this post. Because I am very random, I have lots of random things to write about (myself).

At one point in my life, I want to be single, have an amazing job, an amazing house and not give a damn about anyone else’s happiness but my own.

Sometimes an episode of Sex & The City solves everything.

I get more scared when I go for my brow waxing than I do when I go for my lady waxing.

I cry every time I watch Armageddon without fail.

Whenever I see a movie with Scarlett Johannson I get really mad for some reason. She really bugs me.

I’m not a huge fan of children, I can only handle two at a time but I have my children’s names picked out. I’d have a boy and a girl and call them Connor and Boleyn.

I hate hearing magazine people tell me working in the industry is nothing like The Devil Wears Prada. As if I’m only in it for the glamour. Secretly I hope there is still a bit of glamour though.

Thanks to my gay bestie, I know the dance routines to most of Britney Spears songs. I do a mean Oops! I Did It Again.

I really want to plan a wedding. Even if it's not my own.

One of my biggest weaknesses is time wastage. I'm always late and I can waste hours doing nothing important, like for instance, worrying over my split ends or which one of my calves is bigger.

I Hope I'm Old Before Die

When we were younger, the gay best friend and I always had a disadvantage. Not only we were short but we could never pass for 18. Even when we turned 18. Therefore in the years before being legal, we used to hang around coffee shops instead of outside clubs begging to be let in. Our favourite coffee shops were the ones which were adjacent to book shops. As you can imagine, Friday nights sipping lattes and reading were rocking J. I remember we always used to go through that book 101 Things To Do Before You Die. At one point we wanted to write down all the items in the book. I should mention we were not freaks just dead poor. And as it turns out, lazy. We didn’t write out the list instead we would both open it on a random page and resolve to do that one thing. We did this a couple of times and both ended up with a list of things we wanted to achieve. I cannot remember what was on my list, I do remember his list telling him to have a threesome. As a good catholic girl, I was both shocked, intrigued and jealous ;).

Cut to me now at 22 still dead poor and still without my list. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the things I want to do and decided to make my own list. I was also inspired by Rachel’s 101 items in 1001 days list. It sounds amazing. But I’m not sure how well I’ll respond to a deadline. Also money is a huge problem. Mainly I cannot save to er, save my life. For some reason as soon as I get money, I need to spend it. Until I marry a trust fund baby, many of the items will take awhile to complete. But I really like making lists so I thought I’d start on some stuff.

10 Places I Want To Visit:

The Little Mermaid Statue in Copenhagen

-Juliet’s Balcony in Verona

-Auschwitz

-Hever Castle (Childhood home of Anne Boleyn)

-Loch Ness (I’m convinced Nessie exists)

-Disney Land

-New Orleans (Around the time of Mardi Gras)

-New York (For the Sex and the City Tour)

-New Zealand (For the Lord of the Rings Tour)

-Pompeii

10 Random Things I Want To Accomplish

-Write and publish a book

-Get married

-Learn another language

-Have breakfast outside Tiffanys flagship store

-Buy a Mini Cooper (by myself, no help from my dad or brothers)

-Have a holiday villa in Spain

-Zorbing

-Sit front row at a fashion show (preferably next to Anna Wintour but I can settle)

-Kissing the Blarney Stone

-Be completely debt-free

10 Things I Want To Try

-Manhattan cocktails in Manhattan

-Champagne in Champagne

-Haute Couture in Paris

-Coffee at Starbucks

-Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity II

-Sushi at Nobu

-Skiing in the Alps

-Be an intern at Vogue

-Chorizos in Spain

-Picking Tulips in the Netherlands

Looking at them now, some don’t seem so hard to do. Some I can accomplish together. Some I’m not sure if I ever will be able to accomplish. But there’s no point in getting negative. Instead I’ll keep the faith and wait anxiously for items to cross off.

If you have anything you think I absolutely have to try, let me know.

Things For The New Flat

The Big Move is coming along faster than we expected. It’s only ten days to go and we’re starting to freak out a bit. Some more than ours eh Blue Eyes?! I started packing last night and what an experience. Basically I decided I’d start with all the stuff lying around my room. The stuff we have been buying for flat throughout the year. So it includes dishes for the kitchen, cutlery, pillows for the lounge, new photo frames…things that can be packed away in the meantime. I got tired after the first box. It did not look this bad on the Sex and the City movie. Granted they had champers and a killer 80s soundtrack. In the end I managed to fill six boxes of crap that had been cluttering up my room. The result, I now have six boxes filled with crap that are now cluttering up the space in my room. Trying to get to my boots this morning required me to perform some Mission Impossible-like tricks. I do not enjoy.

Packing up bits of my room made me realize how nice my new room is going to be. When I start decorating it. My budget does not allow me to start the “Make Room A Sexy and Sophisticated Place For Men To Wander Into” yet but I have already started thinking of the new things I want. Some of them are things I can afford. Others are not and are the things I can do without for awhile. So here is my new feature, Things For the New Flat. Basically it will detail things I want and things I actually need. Unfortunately I have to make a distinction. So the one thing I really want and will be getting as soon as payday comes around is heart mosaic mirror. My full-length mirror broke when I left my window open too wide and it was a really windy day. Doing my makeup in a half-length mirror while I stay with the parents, not a problem. In my new love shack, I do not think so. So I thought what better way to induce some good vibes than by presenting a heart mirror to the universal and in return they’ll send me Robert Pattinson. At some point in my life, I’m turning my bedroom into Moulin Rouge boudoir. And what better way to start than by getting this chaise lounge sofa. This is where I’ll be lounging oh-so-sexy in my dressing gown while watching Robert sleep (Yes this post is getting sadder by the minute).

If you have any suggestions as to where I can find either please let me know. Also if there is anything you think I should have in the new flat, you know what to do.

Thanks Bitches!

The September Issue

Whenever Fashionista talked about The September Issue I scrolled down to the next post. That was until I heard it may be screened in SA. TSI is a documentary about the production of the September issue of Vogue US and more importantly it’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour. Whom I just love! The documentary sounded so amazing and I was dying to watch it but the chances of a fashion documentary being screened here are very slim. Until I did some research. Turns out The September Issue is being screened at the Durban International Film Festival. Durban is where my gay best friend lives. But my love for him nor Anna Wintour can convince me to part with my already dilapidated savings account. Then I did some extensive research, my boss was pleased, and I found out it will be screened here in SA on the regular cinema circuit. In 2011. Are you freaking kidding me? The Sex & The City sequel is coming out sooner (May 2010 for those interested). So I am asking all those with access, if you have a pirated copy I am not above borrowing it, copying it onto my computer and then watching it while wearing a couture gown. In the meantime here is the trailer. Enjoy!

I ♥ Cape Town

Because I work in an office in an uncool part of Cape Town, Observatory to be exact, there is nothing I relish more than having some time off from being an office administrator and enjoying Cape Town. If you have never been here, you won't understand. If you have, you'll understand perfectly. Remember in Sex and The City where Carrie says she's dating the city? Well Cape Town and I are having a scandalous affair. Unfortunately we cannot have a full-blown relationship as Cape Town has many lovers and as I rule I do not date Man Hos. But this week felt as if his wife had gone to visit her parents for the week and we didn't have to worry about being caught.

Starting with the public holiday on Monday, the girls and I headed on the scary N2 to Lourensford Wine Estate for the Coke Zero Fest. Armed with copius amounts of sunscreen, rockstar sun glasses and an '80s rock complilation, we arrived in the middle of the SA bands sets. I had an absolutely fabulous time despite the +30 degree heat. There was cheap booze, cute boys (many without shirts) and awesome music.

By the time Panic At The Disco came on stage, I had wrangled myself to the front of the area. This was great for catching glimspes of Brendon Urie (who I am soooooo in love with) but bad for stability. With the sun beating down hard in sweltering heat, I almost fainted. Eventually the Blonde Princess had to go and get me some sugar because there was no way I was giving up my spot so some 12-year-old emo girl could swoon over Brendon instead of me. And it was totally worth it, although they don't have a huge following in SA, Panic totally rocked the house. Snow Patrol were on next and by this time, my blood sugar levels were back up and the sun was setting. Gary, the lead singer has to be the most polite muscian ever or just very charming. He had 12 000 people hanging on his every word.

Without a doubt Snow Patrol were the highlight of the fest. And a tough act to follow. As Oasis found out. Their lacklustre performance meant I spent more time at the food stalls than listening. They almost redeemed themselves with Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova but it was not enough to win back the crowd. Another thing, I'm sure the crowd didn't enjoy was the eternity to took to get out of the parking lot. We were lucky enough to only spend an hour waiting. The Gay Best Friend was still there by the time I had dropped the Sports Fan at home, washed all the day's dirt off and was getting ready for bed.

Tuesday night was another fabulous night in the city. Had dinner with lots of people I like and some I really dont at Beluga. I had the most amazing Springbok fillet. Am still dreaming about it. Between Tuesday and Wednesday night, I have visited almost every gay bar on the pink strip. The Gay Best Friend has been moaning about the lack of good homo clubbing in his hometown of Durban. Because I have Catholic guilt, I agreed to take him dancing. I love gay bars but if see one more disco ball I will freak! Wednesday and Thursday were all about chillaxing. We had full body hot stone massages and paraffin waz pedis at a spa. Then we spent the next day in bed watching Will & Grace and eating leftover easter eggs. Bliss. The week has been ended off by watching 17 Again. Zac Efron! There are no words!

Except come of age, I feel dirty oogling you.

Today has been my last day of holiday and I spent it by going to the gym and buying things for my diet which I plan to resume soonish! Tomorrow will be spent attending a course and then heading to a farm for a birthday party. I'm only excited by one of those events.

All in all though, my love affair with the city has been spectacular and I cannot wait to have another tryst.

Ex-oh! Ex-oh!

Introduction to who us Skinny Bitches are!

So as we’ve just joined the cool club of bloggers, we thought we should introduce ourselves. Explain exactly why is it we’re not skinny, still living at home and are permanently broke, so here it goes:

Me, being Blue Eyes (for obvious reasons), am far from being skinny. Please see post about chocolate to understand why. But to be honest I still think I’d choose chocolate over being skinny, at least I will be happy and not hungry. My friend Green Eyes, she’s not skinny too, but she has awesome curves, fashion sense and killer boobs to make it work, I wish you could see her run across a street, it’s like something out of Sex and the City. Either way, I think we’re both pretty happier although Green Eyes is currently best buddies with a dietician and she’s gone all healthy on me (But I will get revenge, I know chocolate it her weakness…mwah ha ha).

Another sore topic is the fact that we’re both still living at home. It’s not that we hate being at home, it’s just that you can’t exactly be FABULOUS will you’re still being told to make your bed or clean up after yourself. I doubt whether Queens have that problem to deal with on a daily basis. We have this dream (which we hope will soon be a reality) to move into the Cape Town CBD . In our fabulous new home, we will have a pink kitchen, blue bathroom, purple/red & black sitting room and sexy, cute neighbours who dine with us on regular occasion. If you think we’re joking, well then you obviously haven’t seen us shopping up a storm at Canal Walk and spending hours talking over colour choices at Seattle. And if you’re wondering, YES! Pink, blue, purple/red & black will work together.

So this brings me to the next sore point; CASH FLOW. Maybe this is a problem because we’re spendaholics, or because we like to eat out or maybe it’s just a direct reflexion of the fact that we’re newbies within the big wide working world. Me, personally, going with the last excuse. Green Eyes has been working for the last year and a bit for an online marketing agency where she has turned their world fashionably upside side. As if you haven’t guessed, she’d like (or should I say love) to be a fashion journalist or writer for a magazine and I’m proud to say she’s working on it…so watch this space. Me, I recently started working within the advertising world and am not complaining. Great people, great environment and a good stepping stone. Ultimately I want to be in marketing as a Brand manager… ideally for Lindt Chocolate.

Well, that’s a brief introduction to us Skinny Bitches (in the Making), there’s lot more to tell and give away…but that will all come later. We hope you love our blog as much as we do. We get the biggest kick out of hanging around each other and dreaming our lives away and we hope you will too.
Happy reading…

Oh for the love of...Shoes!

As blue eyes has already mentioned, shoes play a big, big role on our wishlist. They inspire confidence and power beyond the height that they provide, enhance our shape and look pretty. They're also really easy to get wrong - there are SO many fugly shoes out there. So, as potential Queens of the World would have to wear the best, what are the best shoes in the world? The quest commences for the best that money can buy (which we need to point out might be very expensive but aren't necessarily the most expensive).

If we're going for the absolute best, there are only three brands to consider - all of them designed and made by artists and craftsmen.
Manolo Blahnik
Much loved by Carrie in Sex and the City, the Manolo brand originated in London and was launched in 1971. Mentors to Blahnik and the influential people that we have to thank for encouraging his talent are the late, greats Diana Vreeland (American Vogue's legendaray editor) and Ossie Clark (the designer of the 70's).

Jimmy Choo

The Jimmy Choo brand of luxury shoes and other accessories was launched in 1996 by Tamara Mellon, company director (previously British Vogue's accessories editor) and Jimmy Choo himself, an East London shoe-maker. Celebrities love them for their bling-bling appeal and up-to-the-minute trends on the red carpet.

Christian Louboutin My personal favourite, these beauties are characterised with deep red soles - flashing a glimpse of scarlet as one walks. Christian Louboutin, the man, is a French designer who has recently branched out into handbags.
